Meeting was called to order by P~~ayor Pro-t em Fred Ruff, due to the absence from the City of Iv~ayor Geo. Sharp. The follmrvving Aldermen responded to roll call: C.`.Agee, F.R.Boyle, J.J.P.oark, Geo. Halton and Fred Ruff acting as Ma~eor. Minutes of the last regular and special mee$ings were read and approved. °:'embar:,hip- Texas League of 1~4unicipalities Putayor Pro-tem Ruff then introduced Mr Crutchfield, representati9re of the Texas League of T~tunicipalities who addf~essed the Council on the matter of the advantages of being a member cf the League and urged that the Cit~• of La: forte take out a mem'oershipj the fee for such membership being $20.00 per year for cities the size of L a ports. Ald. Boyle offered a motion that the City of La Forte take out a membership in the Texas League of Municipalities which was lost for lack of a second, but the Councilmen-agreed to go into the matter further with P~layor Sharp, looking toward a membership later. City Fllec. Insp.- assistant The City Secretary advised th Councilmen that C.F.Eirschfield asked that he be allowed to appoint S.R.Smith as his assistant to perform the work of City Electrical Inspector for the La Porte area until further notice and presented a signed statement from 1~'tr. Firschfield authorizing Mr Smith to inspeot and to collect all fees. Ald. Agee offered a motion whicra was seco3~ded by Ald. Boyle that her S•R.Smith be recognised s, City of La torte Electrical Inspector as pgr Mr Hirschfield's request. Motion carried. Bil~s The following bills were allotived.~on motion of Ald. Boyle, second by Al d. Roark that ~~.53.69 be paid out of the De- linquent Tax Fund, on Norris Bros. Anticipating Varrant due Aug. 16th,1936, this amount to include interest to due date and the balance of the warrant to be renewed for r_inety days. Car:tied. over Am.La France 2~ote Z~iotion by Ald. Classes- "rater P- Sewer*e disposal Coxmnunication regarding free conferer_ce classes on water anal sewage disposal being held. in Iiouston at Taylor Vocationa' School during the month. of August was turned over to the Water and Sewer Committees on motion, of Ald. Holton, second by Ald Agee. Painting Bids, C~.t~T Hall ~~gotion by Ald. Holton,~~second by Ald. Roark that the bids on the ainting of the outside woodwork of the City Hall be opened. Carried. Resolution- Bay ridge water connection On motion of Ald. Holton, second by Aad. Roark the following resolution was adop~- ed: "Whereas , r7rs Sam Streetman(widow of Judge Sam Streetman), Allen Hannay, R.C. Kuldell and E.L.Crain, owners of that certain water line which extends from the City limits of La Porte along Grandview Avenue to the property of the said E.L. Crain, desire a~~.ter service from the City of La Porte water system, and; "y`uhereas, the Board of Alderm®n of the Clty of La Torte has agreed to fur- nish vrater to such persons under the terms, conditions and agreements contained in that certain contract, in writing, signed by such persons and bearing the date August lOth,l93b; I?OVd THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVEL'that George H. Sharp, mayor of the City of .La Porte, and Pxs TL.G.Lambly, the city secretary, are hereby authorized and instructed to execute, in-the name of the City of La Porte, the hereinaitove mentioned written contract." Holton, second bz3 Ald.gee, the fo1?.owing resolution was adopted: "':"dI3~REAS, the mayor of the City of La torte prepared and submitted to the City Council at its regular meeting held on July 27,1936, his proposed bud~e~ for the fiscal year, April 1,1936 to I~~a.rch 31,1937, and; V•JI~ERr,AS, the City Council filed such proposed budget with the clerk of the C,~ty and designated that a public hearing on such budget be held at the City Hall at 8:00 P.Pq. on August 10,193b and caused public notice of such hearing to be made, axtd; u'u~~3ERr,AS, such public hearing has been held, it is therefore ordered by the Council that the budget, as prepa.ro~:-1 a2?d Nubrn:itted by the mayor, is hereby finall~t approved by the C,ty C uncil and it is hereby ordered that a true copy of such approved i~ud~;et, togehher Yvith a copy of this order, Oshall be filed in each of the offices of the Clerk of the City of La Porte, the C arty Clerk of I3arr•is County, Te~cas and the State Comptroller, at Austin, Te.~s."
