Agee, F.R. Boyle, J.J. Roark, Fred Pi. Ruf'f', r4?mutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Election Officials Th© mayor appointed the following election officials to officiate at the annual City election to be held at the La Porte City Hall Building on the 6th day of April, 1937, F.Y. Carried• Bids- Ydater Tank-Fire Truck Bids on a tiYater Tank for the Fire Dept. Truck were opened as follovrs: A.ce Distributing Cg. ~185.25,xahn & Clay~26?_~50, vvyatt Metal & Boiler Vuorks ~151.DO,Electric Yielding & Engineering Co.~169.50. R4otion by Ald. Boyle, second by Ald. Roark, that the Council award the contract to the lowest bidder on the particular specifications, namely, Electric Yielding & Engineering Com whose bid was X169.50,-and that on delivery and acceptance by the Fire Committee and the Fire Chief that the City Secretary be instructed to issue a warrant for the amount of the invoice. Carried Reports from the following Committees were recei~-ed; Ald. Agee ck Ruff on installation of a Pay Teleprone in La F'~rto asked-for more time and tYs committee was continued. Ald. Ruff and Roark, Com. on matter of W.S.H.Minchen taxes asked for more time and this committee was continued. Chairman Boyle of Street 8c Alley Com. reported that shall on Interurban right- of way was not worth considering for street purposes. Ald. Roark and Ruff presented a written report on the condition of A.S. Hamilton which had been prepared. by D.F. Aves,b?.D. This report was placed on file. A.S. Hamilton compensation Motion by A}d. Ruff second by Ald. Agee, that A.S. Hamilton compensation be continued for another two weeks; from March 19th to April lst,1937, both in- clusive, at the rate of 60~ of his regule.r wages of I~O~ per hour for fi hour day for the working days of said period from March 19th to April l~st,lg37. Bids on Audit Bids for the annual audit of the City's accounts were opened as follows: ?!.~c Guire,lt?azur & Co. .~150.C0, Learned & Tapp X125.00. Motion by Ald. Agee, second by Ald. Ruff that the bid on the audit be aware to Learned & Tapp, low bidders, on''their.:.bid of X125.00. Carried over 2 • • Pan American Exposition. Mr Geo..Counts, Sec'y.of the Chamber of Commerce presented a letter to be read from the Greater Texas & Pan American Exposition offering to set aside an official d~,-~ °cr La Porte and asking the cooperation of the City' Letter was signed by Frank 2.. a7~atson,Asst. Director General. 1€otion by Ald. Boyle,secand by Ald« AF.ee, that the Council go on record as giving all cooperation possible to the Greater T®gas & Pan American Exposition. Carried. Hard surfacing streets Mr Counts also appeared before the Council in the interest of .hard surfacing streets in La Porte to encourage building here. After discussion Mr Counts was asked to bring additional information as to localities where building is contempls.ted, to the Coun- cil for their consideration, Traffic Lights The P~rayor called for a report on Traffic Lights by the Lighting Com. in chargel of this matter and Chairman Agee made e.n informal report of a conference with Mr Edgar Woods, City Electrician of Houston wha made suggestions of velue to the Com~.ittee. Mr H.J. Pfeiffer introduced a representative of Crouse-Hines Co. who demonstrated their products and explained its various advanta.p~es. The following bids were opemed:J.A.Muhl Co. L. &:P. earnings The Mayor presented to the Council a check from the Houston Lighting & Power Co. in the amount of ~13q.12, which represented a proportion of net earnings for the year 1G36 allocated to the City of La Porte by the Houston Lighting & Power Co. Motion by Ald. Boyle, second by Ald. Agee that this check be accepted and that the C+ty Secretary be instructed to write a letter of acknowledgement and thanks to the Houston LigY.tir~g anal Fow~~ Co. for same. Ruff, that the C.~ty Secretary be instructed to write a letter s~~iti~~* to Mr Edgar 1rt~,,~-,ds, City electrician of the City of Houston, expressing the appreciation of the Council for the time which he spent informing the La PCrte Lighting Com. in regard to the needs anct recluixements in traffic signals. ~ Carried.
