Meeting was called to order by T,Zayor Sharp with the following Ald-
ermen responding to roll call: ".R. Boyle, J.J. Roark, Fred p. Ruff.
T~Iinutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Letter of The Mayor presented a letter addressed to T~ayor R.H. Fonville and
protest to City Council of Houston, Texas, protesting the violation of State
laws and City of La Porte traffic ordinances on rgay 22,1937, by
mayor and Houston T~otoreycle Officers and State Highway Patrolmen together
Council of with~a caravan of automobiles,as they passed through the City of
Houston La Porte along Vain Street at a high rate of speed.
On motion by Ald. Boyle, second by Ald. Ruff, it was unanimously
carried by those present, that the letter as read be approved and
mailed to T.Sayor T'.H. Fonville and that a aopy be placed on file.
Letter of A letter from Mrs T:Iartha Chaloupka, Investigator in charge of the
appreciation East orris County Sub-office,Old Age Assistance, was read, in which
she thanked the C uncil for their cooperation in furnishing and
Chaloupka equiping an office for this work and for their interest in the work.
On motion of Ald. Ruff, second b3T Ald. Roark the letter was ordered
placed on file.
Letter & A letter from Fred Hartigan together with. an affidavit on the print-
Affidavit ing of the City of La Porte Traffic Ordinance in the Official IJews-
paper was read and ordered accepted and placed on file, on motion
of Ald. Ruff, second by Aid. Boyle and carried.
Norris Bro. L.rotion by Ald. Boyle, second by Ald. Ruff, that the matter of the de-
Ant. ~ya,r.~ ferred payment of Norris Bros. Anticipating ti~arrant held by the First
National Bank, be taken out of the hands of the Finance Committee and
turned over to the T~ayor for settlement. Carried.
Appropriation ?lotion by Ald. Boyle, second by Ald. Ruff, that X50.00 be appropriated
Firemen for the sending of two delegates to the State Firements Convention at
Port Arthur, Texas, June 8,9 & 10, 1937. Carried.
Corporation The City Secretary presented the Corporation Court Report for the
Court month of April which was accepted and ordered placed on file, by
motion of Ald. Boyle, second ';y Ald. Ruff, and oarried.

Fullers rFotion by Ald. Boyle,second by Ald. Ruff, that the Street & Alley
Dirt Com. be authorized to order one oarload of Fuller's Dirt from the ~~
Streets Humble Qil E~ Refining Co. under their plan for experimental pur-
poses, City to pay freight only; this to be done as soon as the
Committee can work out a Street repairing program. Carried
Ordinanoe The P.4ayor presented Ordinance No. 262, being an ordinance presaib-
Traf.fic ing the costs to be assessed in 8orporation Court cases; provid-
ing a system of handling such costs to be collected for the gener-
al funds of the City; providing that a Corporation Court Docket
shall be kept; providing that the City Secretary shall be ex-officio
clerk of said court; prescribing certain duties for the City Secretary
in handling the business of said court; repealing all ordinances and
parts of ordinances in conflict herewith and declaring an emergency.
PRotion by Ald. Boyle, second by.A1d. Ruff, that the ordinance be
adopted:as read. Carried.
U-`'urns Adotio~i by Ald. Ruff, second by Ald. Boyle, that the matter of the in-
stallation of U-Turn Signs be turned over to the Police Com. for in-
vestigation and report. Carried.
Mayor Sharp presented the following resolution:
~'
Resolution 'J'~iEREAS, the City of La Porte has heretofore passed
and approved Ordinance No. 261, regulating trafi'io upon the public
streets of the City of La Porte; and,
~JHEREAS, such Ordinance provides that the City Council
shall, by resolution, determine and designate tha character of all
official traffic signs and signals and shall designate the location
where the same shall be installed; and,
11NEREAS, such Ordinance provides that the City Council
shall , by resolution, determine-upon what streets "angle parking"
shall be permitted;
NaPI, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THATt
the electrically controlled red, green and amber signals heretofore
installed at the intersection of Main Street and Second Street and
at the intersection of Main Street, Broadway and San Jaointo Streets,
in the City.of La Porte, are here now determined and designated as
the character or type of traffic signals for such intersections and
said intersections are here designated the location where such lights
shall be installed and operated under said Ordinance; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUldCIL THATs parking
at an angle of forty-five degrees shall be permitted upon Main Street
from Broadway Street to Fourth Street, in the City of La Porte, and the
Police Committee is hereby authorized and instructed to properly mark ~
and sign Main Street between said streets for such angle parkingg.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED. On motion by Ald. l'oyle, second by Ald. Ruff
and unanimously carried by those present the motion was adopted as read.

Letterheads Motion by Ald. Boyle, second bar A~d. Ruff,. that the City Secretary
be authorized to order a new supply of one thousand letter heads for
the City, with proper changes and that the job be given to the Daily
Sun Carried.
The T~fiayor appointed Ald. Roark and Al.d. Benson to serve as the City
Relief Committee for the current ~Eiscal year.
Cn motion of Ald. Raork, second by Ald. Ruff the Council took adj-
ournment.
