AUGUST 23, 1937, 8:00 P.F. • Meeting was called to order by Mayor Sharp, with the following Aldermen responding to roll Dells C.M. Agee, F.F. Boyle, J.J. Roark, Fred R. Ruff. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Peter A letter from Mr R.F. Collins, representative of the Worthington-Gammon prices deter Co. eras read, stating that the verbal agreement~'with Mr Ruff on the price of meters was correct and that his company would be notified. A check to the La Porte 'Volunteer Fire Dept. for tickets was enclosed by Mr Collins. Report & bill The Mayor presented the report of the Equalization Board together with Eq. Board the bill for their services. Motion by Ag ,,e~~econd by Ruff, that the Council aocsept the report of the Equalization~drder it placed on file and instruct the City Secretary to drag warrants for the payment of the bill for s®rviees as submitted. Carried. Petty Cash Motion by Ruff, Second by Boyle,- that the Petty Cash be renewed in the amount of X7.15 . Carried Paint Sob The City Secretary read a letter From the Fire Chief and the Fire Com- Water wagon ~-ttee reporting the aeeepta.nce of the paint Sob on the Water Wagon accepted as satisfactory. Motion by Boyle, second by Agee, that the balance ~ in the amount of X31.35, due Gus titi'. Tips,Jr, Ford dealer, for t h® paint fob on the Water Wagon be paid. Carried. Payment Motion Boyle, second by Ruff, that the City Secretary be instructed Mrs L.Ne1soA,.,to pay ~ 00.00 on the Anticipating Warrant held by Mrs L. Nelson in the amount of ~1,l,!00.00, due on or before Dec.3lst,1937,with interest at per aimum~ this payment to be.2dade~from the Delinquent Tax Fund and the balance of X1,000.00 to be renewed, payable on or before one year from date with interest at !~ per annum. Carried. Bids Motion by Boyle, second by Ruff, that the bids on a Piok-up Truck be Pick-up opened. Carried l~cg Bids were opened with the following resultss Hughes Motor Co. bid, net,cash on delivery X615.35, terms including interest and insurance X674.16 Tips Motor Co. ~597•0o cash on delivery. The City Secretary was ordered to place the bids on file, and the Council agreed to hold the matter open for investigation. over 2 ~ • Com. to Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the Mayor appoint a committee investigate to make an investigation of the prices and data submitted on the Pick-up Trucks, also plans for a garage to house the City equip- Piek-up went, and set a date to discuss these matters, 8arried. Trucks The Mayor appointed the Water Com, via. Fred R. Ruff, F.R. Boyle and J.J.Roark, to 8.et in this matters and stated that he Would call a special meeting When the Com. was ready to report. The Street & Alley Com. reported that J.O. Brooker is at work clearing the Street reoently opened between Blocks 20 and 21 Bay Front Addition. The Relief Committee Was not ready to report on plans for rorelcome of the Texas Public Welfare Workers. New Asst Notion by Boyle, second by Roark, that a new Assistant City Sec- Secty & retary be employed as per the agreement signed by the Counoil and handed to the City Secretary and that his Bond be made, to be Band paid by the City as oustomary. Carried. Ord~2f~. Motion by Boyle, seoond by Ruff, that Ordinance No. 26l~., being an Liquor Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 25~,, passed by the City Council of La Porte, Texas, Deoember 2, A.D. 1935; establishing a system of permits for persons engaged in ~s.rious phases of the liquor traffic within the oorporate limits of the City of La. Porte,Texe~.s; levying fees and providing for their colleotion and use; and de- claring an emergency, be passed as read. Carried Bonding Co The City Secretary read a fetter Prom Roche & Co.,Investment Se- curities, Austin,Texas, addressed to Jno.~. Riibler, City Attorney. After discussioa of the propos#icion contained in this letter, a motion urea offered by Ruff, seoond by Roark that the~City Attorney be authorized to notify Roche & Co. that the City of La Porte does not Dare to go into the Refunding proposition as outlined by their Company, Carried. Sidewalk Notion by Boyle, second by Roark, that one third of the bill of X66,30 ~'ubmitted by the La Porte Drug Co, for a sidewalk on 80. Second Street, be paid by the City of La Porter the amount being X22.10 Carried. Fire Insg. Ald. Boyle, reported that the State Fire Insurance Inspecitor eras in La Porte reoently, made s thorough inspection of the Cityts Fire Bquipment and Water Works and gave the City an A No.l rating, see page 3 • i Motion by Roark, second by Boyle, that Ordinance No. 265, being an Ordinance providing for the levy, assessment and. collection of an Ad Valorem tax for the year 1937 of and at the rates of X1.50 on each X100.00 valuation of taxable property in the City of La Porte for the purpose of paying the interest on, and a Sinking Fund for the r®demption of, "City of La Porte Refunding Bonds" and "City of La Porte Refunding Warrants; Series 1935" and for dying current expenses of said City be passed. Carried. Motion by Boyle, second by Roark that the City Secretary be in- structed to transfer the sum of X200.00 from the Delinquent Tax Fund to the General Fund to take care of current accounts.
