• • POSTPONED MEETING LA PORTE CITY COIINCIL OCTOBER 12,1937, 8;00 P.M. The regular meeting of the La PRrte City Council Rhioh had been postponed from October 11th Ras held on October 12th,1937, being called to order by Mayor Sharp and Kith the folloRing Aldermen responding to roll calls C.M. Agee, P.L. Benson, F.R. Boyle, J.J. Roark, Fred R. Ruff. Motion by Boyle, second by Benson, that the City Secretary be instructed to send the requested information on Building Permits to the li.5. Dept. of Labor,Buresa of Statistics at ~Jashington. Carried The .Mayor presented a letter from Chas. R. Haile which the Secretary was instructed to gnlace on files also letters from. Garrett Engineering Co• and the American City were to be placed on fiI©• Affidavit The City Seeretary reported that an affidavit had been received fra~m Fred Hartman on the advertising fti'r the bids on the painting of the Water Tower and Tank and on the building of the garage and tool house. This was ordered placed on file. Int.onBonds The Seoretary reported the payment of the Interest Coupond on Re- funding Bo~dds dae Oot.lOth and payment of Norris Bros. Warrant as ordered at October ~.th Special meeting. Lotion by Roark, second by Benson, that the foll~ing resolution be adopted; State of Texas County of Harris Costs WHEREAS, J.W. Mills, Clerk of the District Courts of Harris ~~ De1q.Tax County, Texas, has demanded security for the costs in delinquent tax suits Suits heretofore filed and hereafter to be filed by thecCity of La Porte,Texa.s; and WHEREAS, on the 12th day of October, A.D. 1937, at a regular meeting of the City Couheil of the said City of La Porte, upon motion made by J.J. Roark, Alderman, seconded by P.L. Benson,Alderman, and duly parried by a majority of the votes of the Aldermen present, the follow- . iag resolution was adopted: " Be it resolved that the City of LaPorte, Texan hereby ex- pressly guarantees the payment of all posts acc~ued and hereafter to accrue in all delinquent tax suits filed and hereafter to be filed by said City, upon the final disposition thereof." Carried Streetman The ~:ayor presented a letter from W.11~. Streetarian, Iiogston Attorney, letter regarding the suit of Gayle Bros. Vs the City of LaPorte, also a letter ft-om the Attorneys representing Gayle Bros• The Council agreed to arrange a meeting with Mr Streetman on the matter. Bids,labor Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the bids for Labor on the garage garage and tool house be opened. Carried. The bids were opened with the following results: ' Ted. Cowley: To build garage as shrnvn on plan, including foundation,but no painting or plumbing, for the sum of X180.00 H.~. Whatley: Labor contract on City garage, complete, X256.00 Motion by Ruff, second by Benson, that the Contract on Labor for the building of the Cityy ggarage and tool house be awarded to Ted.Cowley on his lour bid of ~180.~0 Carried. see pg 3 Minutes- Oet.l2,cor~td • 3 Special Bldg. Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the Mayor appoint a committee ~~~ Committee composed of Ald. Ruff, Ald. Benson and Ald. Boyle, rho are authorized to purchase the materi~kls for the garage and tool house from the lo~rest bidder. Carried Ths Mayor appointed the above named committee.
