SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE LA PORTE CITY COIINCIL
February 21, 1938 - 8:00 P. M.
A special meeting, called by the ffiayor for the purpose of considering the
inspection and purchase of an American-La France fire truck own®d by the
Arnerioan-L~a France and Foamite Industries, Inc., and looated at ~a~e~t~ter,
Texas, all of the Council members having been duly notified, eras called to
order by the ~dayor and the following Aldermen were present: C. M. Agee,
Fred Ruff, Frank Boyle, J. J. Roark. Alderman P. L. Benson was absont, due
to illness.
A~.LaF Mr. A. B. Busboy, salesman of the American_~, France Company, gave a de-
Truck. tailed report on the fire truck, stated that the truck originally was sold
for the cum of X10,500.00, to the City of Floydada and offered to sell the
same to the City of La Porte for the sum of #1,000.00 cash, the truck to
be delivered to the City at Sweetwater, in ita present condition, with all
of its original equipment, any and sll needed repairs to be made by the
City.
After a lengthy dissuasion of the proposition, a motion was made by Alderman.
Boylo, second by Alderman Ruff, that the Mayor appoint a eamaaittee to go to
Sweetwater, Texas, at the Cityts expense, to inspect the truck and with full
power and authority to purchase the same for the City under the proposition
offered by Mr. Busboy. The motion carried by the unanimous vote of those
pre sent .
Motion was made by Alderman Ruff, second by Alderman Roark, that if the City
purchased the truck it be sent to Da11aa to be repaired as necessary, at the
Cityts expense. The motion carried unanimously.
Potion was made by Alderman Ruff, second by Alderman Agee, that the Mayor
and City Secretary be authorised and instructed to issue a warrant in the
sum of X75.00 to defray the expenses of the committee to Sweetwater, Texas.
