Agee, in the amount of X20.00, representing Austin expenses of trip to Austin"in the interest of the City of La Porte, in referenoe to House Bill No.83, Senate Bill No. 172, be ordered paid. Carried. Ordinance Motion by Agee, second by Roark that Ordinance No. 274, presented by the Mayor, being, AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE COMPENSATION OF THE THREE ALDERRKEN TO BE ELECTED IN APRIL, 1939,PROYIDING 1PiHEN SUCH COMPENSATION SHALL BE PAID AND THAT SUCH COMPENSATION SHALL BE PAID Ott OF T$E GENERAL FUNDS. OF THE CITY; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREPtITH AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY _ be passed as read. Carried. So.w.Bell A letter of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.,in regard to the assessment Tel.letter of taxes was turned:'over ,to the City Attorney .for reply. Refdg.war. The City Seoretary reported that City of La Porte Refunding warrants as J.L.Bronson follows: - No. 6 for X500.00_, No. 7 for X500.00, No. l0,for X500.00 and No. 11 for X500.00, Series 1935, together with Interest Coupons attached thereto, owned by J.L. Bronson, Administrator of the Estate of Helen L. Bronson, of Monroe r~ichigan, had come in as oalled by the City Council and had been paid on February 20,1939 at the First National Bank of La Porte, Texas, in the total amount of X2,000.00. The Warrants vrere presented to the Counoil. Motion by Ruff,_second,by Roark, that the above naaaed City of La Porte Re- funding warrants be turned over to the Mayor and City Attorney to be totally destroyed by fire and that the proper affidavit be made and filed in the office of the City Secretary. Carried. Election The 1~6ayor read the following eleation order; order , Be it ordered by the Mayor and City Counoil of La Porte,Texas that the annual election be held at the City Hall Building in said City of La Porte, on the 4th day of Apri1,1939, for the gurpose of electing three members to the Board of Aldercien of said City. It is further ordered that said eleation be held in the manner prescribed by law for holding such elections. It is further ordered that the returns of such eleotion be de- livered tm the City CBuacil of said City, in open session, as soon as practicable after the closing of the polls. It is further ordered that proper notice of such eleation be published in the official newspaper. Motion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the above election order be passed as read. Carried. Boyle reported that the typevrriter is now in his possession temp- orarily. The Council instructed the City Seoretary to credit the account of I,irs HFrric ^rith the balance of ;11.00 sY~own to be due by her on the typev~-iter and charge the proper accounts. ~?oyle Alderman Boyle gave a detailed report of his trip to the Legislature report in Austin on Feb. 15,16 and 21 to 23, in reference to the delinquent tax bill and Petscki amendment, requiring School Histricts to accept County valuations for taxing purposes. He reported that the del- inquent tax bill was approved by both the k3ouse and tho Senate com- rsittees but that the Petsch amendment was eliminated. Foliee Com, Ia`r Roark as ck.airman of the Police Committee made a report on the sit- report uation regarding a nightwatchman for the City. He stated that the Police Committee had contacted the business men with a request for a statement from each one as to how much each firm would contribute toward the ex- pense of a nightwatchman. Mr Roark presented 38 signed agreements, totaling '"b2.00 per month, offered by the business men toward the ex- pense of a nightwatchman for the business district. After a prolonged discussion of the matter the Council members asked the ~4a,yor to call a special meeting to work out a plan in this matter. Special ~gayor Sharp called a Special T~seeting of the Council to be held at the '.%eeting City Hall on Thursday evening, march 2,1g3R, at 8:00 P.I:~. for the pur- pose of arriving at a plan for the emploS~nent of a night watchman for the City of La Forte.
