• • MINUTES OF THE LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL SEPTEMBER 11,1938, 8:00 P.M. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Geo. H. Sharp with the following Aldermen present: F.R. Boyle, J.J. Roark, Fred R. Ruff. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Motion by Roark second by Ruff, that bills in the amount of X323.72, as per the following schedule, be allowed and ordered paids Gea. H. Carried ?o.~.~:F Motion by Boyle, second by Ruff, that the City Secretary be instructed to write a letter to the Houston Lighting & Power Co. at Houston, Texas, re- questing that a representative of the Company be present at the next City Council meeting on September 25th to ®zplain the new rates now charged the City of La Porte by the Houston Lighting Fc Power Co• Carried y~ater The City Secretary presented a letter from the Austin Branch of the United Anal~~sis States H+~pt. of the Interior, Geological Survey, containing an analysis of samples of water of the two City wells, designated as Harris County well No.1101.~ and 1181.~A On motion by Ruff, second by Boyle, this letter was ordered placed on file for future reference. ~ Copper A letter from the Well ~ Machinery Co. of Fort Worth, Texas, on the price tubing of copper tubing was also ordered planed on file. '~ix•e Maryor Sharp reported that he had called the State Fire Insurance Coxmnission Reports Office in regard to the monthlyy fire reports and found that the reports had been received in time so that •the City was not penalized. 2 ~`.P. Allen.*~+[otion by Roark, second by Ruff, that E.P. Allen be notified that his Special salary as Special City Police Officer will be discontinued October 1st, 1839 but his Commission will continue in force if his services are con- tinued by the merchants. Carried. The Mayor reported that J.H. Smith,Sr., had been appointed by him and. sworn in as Special Police Officer tb sot at the La Porte Schools. Motion by Boyle, second by Roark, that the above appointment be con- firmed by the Council. Carried. of ~22,20l~.•96 1`,='39 The City $eeretary presented the 1g39 Tax Roll,~to be collected as of Ta.x doll October 1,1939. Motion by Boyle, second by Ruff, that the following resolution be adopted;. RE,.S' GLUTTON Wheress, the City Council has examined the City of La Porte tax record, for the year 1939, prepared by the_City Tax Assessor and Collector and found such record to be correct; ~~ N09~t, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED-BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE that the tax record prepared by the City Tax Assessor ~ Collector be and it is hereby approved as the City Tax Record for the year 1g~9 and the City Tax Assessor & Collector is hereby instructed to colleot the taxes in aocordance with such record. And it is so ordered. Carried. Delq.Tax Motion by Roark, second by Boyle, that the City's delinquent tax records -e cords be turned over to the City Attorney with instructions that he institute Suit: legal proceedings for the collection of all unpaid taxes after sending notices to delinquent tax payers. Carried. Carried. F'i~,e, Motion by Boyle, second by Roark that the City buy the necessary pipe and By-pass equipment'to by-pass City water direct into the City mains from dell # 2. Carried.
