M. Agee, P. L. Benson, F. R. Boyle. I~~inutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Parrants Notion by Agee; second by Boyle that the following warrants to George Simon in the amount of 132.00 be ratified:;2562 8: 2555• Carried ~:ayor Sharp came in at this time. Tax Val. ='otion by Agoe, second by Ruff that the valuation on Improveaeents on Reduced Lot 13, Block 31a., La Porte, now owrned by F. R. Foyle, be rFduced to ~r50.OC for the years 1Q22 to 1937 inclusive and that tho delinquent taxes and interest and penalty be figured accordingly. Carried Rotary The Assistant City Secretary presented the agreement by the Rotary Club Z:.r'.l~. agreeing to pay for all material and supplies to be furnished by the Sponsors of the Vti'. p. A. L. Nelson :arrant =anticipating Tarrant with interest to date and that the balance due of X300.00 be renelved for 90 days . Carried Frocla- Mayor Sharp issued a proclamation for the observance of Thanksgiving cation vrhich is attached hera~:ith and becomes a part of these minutes. Hallowe'en Motion by Benson, second by Ruff that the Police Committee be authorized to appoint six men as RTight A-atahmen on Ftalloween Night. Carries? L:oticn by Agee, second by Benson that the meeting be adjourned. a ec y, o o ;`fi~e~ 1 ~- YYgEREAS, the last Thursday in the month of November has been, for many year$,proalaimed by tbg suaaessive Presidents of the IInited States a day of Thanksgiving; and, 1Y~iEREAS, the Honorable Franklin Delano Rosevelt, President of the IInited States, oontrary to tradition, proolaimed November 23rd as Thanksgiving day for this year; and, ~3EREAS, the Honorable ri. Lee O~Daniel, Governor of the State of Te eta, has proolaimed both November 23rd and Nov~amba~'30th of this year as days ~ ' of Thanksgiving; and, 1l~HEREAS, the Executive Officers of various cities and oaoauunities throughout this State have proclaimed either one or both of such days as days of Thanksgiving; and, 1NHEREAS, it is the consensus of opinion of the City Council of the City of La Porte that there are altogether too few days and periods of Thanks- giving observed a~xl. that at this time the one outstanding thing for which the people of this nation should be thanki~il is that we are not now involved in the present European war and that the time honored traditional Thanksgiving day on the last Thursday of November should be maintained; NONE, THEREFORE, I, Geo. H. Sharp, Mayor of the City of La Porte, Teas, hereby proclaim Thursday, November 30, A. D. 1939,Thankagiving day and declare it a City wide holiday and, further, I here,. now, declare Thursday, November 23, A. D. 1939, a day of solemn Thanksgiving for the pease of this nation and declare it a City wide holiday. I ask the cooperation of the citizens of La Porte, Te~as.s, in the appropriate observance of these two days. Fitness my hand this the 23rd
