HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-11-1939 Meeting~ r MINUTES LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL DECEMBER 11,1939 Meeting was called to order by Mayor Sharp, with the following Aldermen present: C.I. Agee, P.L. Benson, F.R. Boyle, J.J. Roark, Fred R.Ruff: Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Sidewalks C.O. Crenshaw and J.Z. Sharp appeared before the City Council with 3rd St a petition signed by property owners on Third Street between Main and C. Streets, asking that the sidewalks on the West side of Third Street from Main to C. Streets be rebuilt by the City. Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the matter of the rebuilding of sidewalks on the west side of Th~_rd Street from Main to C. Streets be turned over to the Street and A11ey Committee to investigate the con- dition of the walks, get figures on the cost of rebuilding and report back to the next City Council meeting, also that the petition be planed on file. Council Pdayor Sharp pointed out that the next regular Council meeting date. would i.ftg fall on December 25th, Christmas Day. Motion by Agee, second by Roark, that the Couneil postpone the next regular meeting from Monday,December 25th to Wednesday, December 27th, 1939, at 8 o'clock. Carried. Fire Dept Motion by Ald. Boyle, that X125.00 for annual prizes be allowed to the Prizes Fire Department. There was no second to this motion. Motion by Benson, second by Roark, that the usual X100.00 for annual prizes be paid to the La Porte Volunteer Fire Department, by the City. Carried. Ald. Boyle asked for a record vote which resulted as follows: Ruff, Aye, Roark, Bye, Benson, Aye, Boyle,i~o, Agee, Aye. ~~otion deolared carried. Refdg. ~~otion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the Mayor and Gity Secretary be auth- ~lar.Int. orized to pay the Interest in the amount of ~lO.OQ, due on City of La Porte Refdg~arrant i~ro. 3, on January 10,19.0, due date, and that warrant for this amount be drawn on the Int. ~ Skg. Warrant Fund to purchase New York exchange in favor of Manufacturer's Trust Co. of N.Y. for said payment. Carried. Taxes The City Secretary reported that an adjustment of delinquent taxes due on Adj, Lots 1i~. & 15, Block 986, La Porte, was being asked by Fob't D. Rose. Motion by Boyle, second by Agee, that this matter be turned over to the Tax Committee for investigation and recommendation. Carried. Sewer Motion by Agee, second by Roark, that the matter of the sewer situation in connection with the new Baptist parsonage be turned over to the Sewer Com- mittee for investigation and report.
