Meeting was called to order by Mayor Sharp, with the following
Aldermen prosents ~.?VI. Agee, P.L. Benson, F.r.. Boyle, J.J. Roark,
Fred R. Ruff.
Minutes of the postponed meeting of December 27, 1939 were read and
approved.
?,4otion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the following schedule of bills
be allowed in the amount of X332.99

Sal.Crd The Iviayor called for a report on the salary Ordinance for officials to
i-geld Over be elected in April. The Police Committee asked that it be held over
to the next regular meeting.
Chemical 1'.7otion by Boyle, second by Agee, that 250 feet of 1" red, hard rubber
Fiose hose be purchased for the chemical tank on the American La France ladder
truck. Afton some discussion as to bids on such purchases, Boyle and
Agee agreed to withdraw the motion.

Lids cr 1.`otion by Ruff, second by Benson, that the buying of 250 feet of
Hose 1" chemical fire hose be turned over to the Fire Committee to get
bids and with power to act.
Carried.
T'.eports The T1layor called for a report from the Street & Alley Commmittee on
sidewalks on Third St. Chairman Boyle stated that the Committee was
not yet ready to report.
A report was asked on the Rose property in Block 986 La Porte, from
the Tax Committee, who stated that they were not ready to report as
yet.
T'enr~ancy TMgotion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the City Attorney procure tennancy
Leases leases on City Tax Title property which is now under fence.

Lot S,Blk 51 The City Secretary presented a letter from E.A. Kelly,Atty. of Houston
...~'. in behalf of his clients interest in Lot 5,T?lock 51, Sylvan Beach,
asking if the City's offer of July 24,1939 meeting was still good.
P~`otion by Roark, second by Agee, that the City accept the stated fig-
ure of X63.93 for delinquent taxes due on Lot 5, Block 51, Sylvan Beach
Addition, if paid by Fenruary 1st, 1940.

Price The matter of L.L. Price taking his vacation from January 29 to Feb. ?.2,
V~ cation ]-9Z'.C, r:as rre=erted. 1:"ct;ion by Ruff, second by Roark that Price's re-
quest on vacation be granted frog: January 29, to Feb,l2,]9~0.
Carried.
Bldg. The T~~;ayor asked for a report fror;~ Ald. Ruff on the building program of
the City. Ruff stated that lie had not been able to arre.rlge a time with
i~;.r Bob Brashear for drawing up plans to submit.
A"otion by Ald. Boyle, that the plot of ground 54 feet by h.0 feet, in the
rear of the City Hall and F9.re Station be used as the site for building
to be~bL.ilt for living quarters in connection ti~ritli the City's Fire Ale_rri
System, building to be 28t x 28t and not to exceed ",1,800.00 in cost.

Jacl- Clive At the request of the Council members Jack Olive appeared before the
sire ~.larms Council to discuss the possibilities of taki~zg care of the Fire Siren
Alarms for i;he present, during the time the City Secretary's Office is
closed from 5 s00 P.2e". until the Welt mornsng at 5:00 P.P~!.; temporary
.living quarters to, be furnished in the Fire Station. T11r Olive in-
dicated his vrillingness to handle the job.
Olive h~otion by Boyle, second by Puff, that Jack :;live be paid .75.00 per .week
Sa.la.ry for taking care of Fire Siren Alarms, daily, From 5:00 P.~R. to 8:00
A.PR., the City to furnish everything necessary to establish temporary
living quarters in the Fire Station in tl-ie City Hall. This job .is to
start January 20,1940.
