LA FORTE CITY COUNCIL

Meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro-tem Ruff, with the following
Aldermen present: C.M. Agee, P.L. Benson, F.R. Boyle, J.J. Roark,
Fred R. Ruff.
Minutes of the regular meeting of January 22,1914.0 and the special meeting
of January 214.,191.0 were read and approved.
Motion by Roark, second by Benson that the following schedule of bills
be allowed and ordered paid, in the amount of X390.07:

Insurance The City Secretary presented an insurance policy covering fire and
theft on the American La France Ladder Truck, in the amount of X1,000.00
vrhich had been submitted for the approval of the Council by Frank G.
Baker.
1~~_etion by Ruff, second by Benson, that the matter of the insurance on
the American La France ladder truck, which expires Febrsary 28,19.0,
be turned over to the Fire Committee for investigation and renevral.
Carried.
Following the reading of a letter from the Texas League of 1!~unicipalities
on the scale of penalties and interest to be charged on 1939 delinquent
taxes, 1L!ayor Sharp presented an ordinance covering the matter.

TAXES LEVIED FOR THE USE AND BENEFIT OF THE GOVERIv'P~NT OF THE CITY OF
LA PORTE, TEXAS, be adopted as read.

hest Realty Co The City Secretary presented a letter from~~~est Realty and Investment
Block 7,L.P. Co. of Houston, Texas, stating `that they 'were contemplating the erect-
ion of a number of modern bungalows in Block 7, La Porte and asking for
estimates on the cost of sh411ing streets and extension of se<~rer and
water mains to serve this block.
~'=otion by Agee, second by Roarl~ that the request of Vest Realty Co.
be turned over to the chairmen of the Street & Alley Com., the Serrer
Com. and the ~Jater Com., to prepare estimates of costs on the items
mentioned in ~dests letter of Februar~r 23rd., that the estimates be
turned over to the City Secretary, vrho was instructed to forward them
to the hest Realty Co. with a fetter stating any requirements r,~de by
the City.

The Mayor read the follovring election order:
Election Be it ordered by the'T~.rayor and City Council of La Porte,
order Texas that the annum. election be held at the City Hall Building in
said City of La Porte, on the 2nd day of April,~19I~0, for the purpose
of electing two members to the Board of Aldermen, the ~:ayor,the City
Secretary and Tax Assessor and-Collector and the City ~1a.rshal of said
City.
It is further ordered that said election be held in the manner
prescribed by law for holding such elections.
It is further ordered that the returns of such election be
delivered to the City Council of said City, in open session, as soon
as practicable after the closing of the polls.
It is further ordered 'that proper notice of such election
be published in the official newspaper.

passed as read.

Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that a push button for the Fire Siren
be installed in the Gity Office.
Carried.
~'otion by Agee, second by Roark, that the matter of a suitable clock
for the office of the City Secretary be turned over to the Building
Committee, with power to act.
Carried.
City Maps On reporting that all of the extra City Itlaps had been sold, the City
Secretary was instructed to order more in accordance with the motion
in the minutes of March 13,1939.

transfer to structed to transfer the sum of Ons Thousand Dollars,(11,000.00)
Spc1.Bld.Fd from the General Fund to the Special Fire Department Building Fund,
to be used only for constructing the building which the Council at
their Special Meeting on January 2~.,191~0, voted to build, for the
use of the person or persons attending the Fire Siren alarms during
the time the City Hall office is closed, daily, Sundays and holidays.
