Ruff, City Attorney Kiibler and City Secretary Lambly. Tainutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Notion, by RufP,second by Agee, that this report be e.ceepted and placed on file. C~~rried. FHA Defense T:ayor Sharp reported that he had wired Rep. Albert Thomas, asking that Lar'orte be included in the ?iJ~~ Defense Housir_g Area. The I~.ayor read a telegram from Rep. Thomas, in reply, who said. he would wire Benny Starks, Chief Underwriter of the Houston ~?rea FHA, requesting that La Porte be in eluded, and suggested that the La Forte City officials do liketr:ise. :vTOtion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the City attorney be instructed to write Benny Starks in regard to this matter. Carried. Benson The City secretary presented a letter front retiring Alderman. P.L. Benson. T;otion by Ruff, second by Johnson that the Secretary be instructed to write a letter to Tv:r Benson, to be si~ned by the City ~%ouncil and to place his letter on file. Carried. Election The Nay or at this time presented the report of the City election held r-pril 1,1941, at the City hall, as follows: For Alderman to serve t~~~o years C.M. Agee 231 votes F.L. Benson 127 votes J.T?. Johnson 249 votes Chas.F. Tdorris 241 votes Fred ~"balker 1 vote Total votes cast 328 0 r:Iotion by Ruff, second by Roark, that C.^r^. Agee, J.A~.~ohnson and Chas. F. rlorris, for Aldermen, the candidates receiving the highest nur,;ber of votes, be declared elected to serve as Aldermen for two years and trat the election returns be placed on file. Carried. Roark, chairman of the Tax Committee, presented the matter of taros issuing a Tax Certificate to C.U. Spawn on Lot 11, Block 26, Bay Front and oi'fered a motion that ?~"r Spawn produce a Ta.x Certificate covering tree years 1824 to 192q,inclusive, on Lot 11, Block 26, Bay Front, or pay the taxes due or. this lot as shown by tree City tax records for those years, after which a Tax Certif'ieate would be issued to him, covering Lots 7 +.0 11, Block 26, Bay Front, second by .-ld.
