Meeting was called +o order by Mayor Sharp with the following Alder-
men and City officials present: C.T~!. Agee, J.N. Johnson, C.F. Norris,
J...1. Roark, F.R. Ruff, City attorney Kiibler, City Secretary Lanibly.
A4inutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
r.4otion by Agee, second by Johnson, that the following schedule of bills
be allowed and ordered paid:

Audit & Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the payment of the above listed
salaries bills be held up until after the bill for audit in the amount of X135.00
and the semi-:aonthly and weekly salaries, due May 15 and 17, respective-
ly have been paid.
Carried.
Car Motion by Roark, second by Norris, that R.H. Baker be al lowed the sus
Expense of X15.00 per month for car expense in connection with his duties as
City Marshal, from May 15th to September 15th,191.a3.

F'etitir~n Mr F.G. Gillette appeared before the City Council with a petition
asking that the City subsit to the voters of the City at a Special
Election the proposition of closing South C. Street between South
Broadway and First Avenue.
Resol'ition The Mayor presented the following resolution for a Special l'lection:
Special Election
Be it ordered by the City Council of the City of La ~Qrte,
in Harris County, Texas, that a special election be held, in the City
Hall Building, in the City of La Porte, Harris County, Texas, on the
1l~th day of June, A.D. 1941, for the purpose of deciding whether the
City Council o£ the City of La Porte shall be authorized to close, by
Ordinance, South C Street, between South Broadway Street and First Avenue
which is the portion of South C Street running East and west between
Block 220 and Block 221 of the Town of La Yorte, in Harris County, Texas.
The election polls will be open froTa 7:00 A,M. to 7:00 P.M. on said .day.
It is further ordered that the ballot to be used in said
election shall contain only the following;
FOR authorizing the City Council of the City of La Porte
to close, by Ordinance, South C Street, betaean South
Broadway Street and First Avenue, which is the portion of
South C Street running East and hest between Block 220 anti
Block 221 of the Town of La Porte, in Harris County, Texas.
AGAINST authorizing the City Council of the City of La Porte
to close, by Ordinance, South C Street, between South Broad-
way Street and First Avenue, which is the portion of South C
Street running East and host between Block 220 and Block 221
of the Town of La Porte in Harris County, Texas.
It is further ordered that
are hereby appointed election officers, as designated, and that said
election shall be held in the manner prescribed by law for holding such
elections.
It is further ordered that the returns of said election
shall be delivered, in open session, to the City Council of the City
of La Porte as soon as practicable after the closing of the Polls.

Motion by Ruff, seconQ by Johnson, that the above resolution be ac-
cepted and passed and the election so ordered.
Carried.
Elec.Rd. Motion by Johnson, second by Ruff, that the Election Board for the
pay above election be paid at the rate of X6.00 per day for each member.

C~~t 'tdeeds Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the cutting of the weeds in
La Porte be turned over to the Street and Alley Committee.
Carried.
La F rte Mayor Sharp issued the following proclamation:

Day WHEREAS, for many years, one day in the spring of each year
has been observed by- the citizens of La .Porte as a day of good fellow-
ship, as an opportunity to become acquainted with all new residents and
in celebration of all the good things with which La Porte has been blessed
during the preceeding year; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Volunteer
Fire Department and the American Legion Post of La Porte, co-sponsors of
"La -Porte Day" with the assistance and cooperation of other civic clubs,
business firms and citizens, wish to observe Wednesday, May l~, 191.x]. as
"La Porte Day " this year;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Geo. H. Sharp, Mayor of the City of La Porte,
hereby proclaim Wednesday, May 11.i., 191.1, as"La Porte Day" and declare it
an official City wide holiday.

The Council instructed the City Secretary to close the City office on
May 11.~,191a.1, "La Porte Day".
Close The Fire Chief appeared before the City Council asking that he be al-
S~treets bowed to close certain streets in the City, temporarily, during the pa-
rade on La Porte Day, for safety in case of fire, also that he b@ allowed
to have the help of the City employees until one o'clock on La Porte Day.
Motion by Ruff, second by Norris, that the Fire Chief be authorised to
close the following streets on May 11~, La P rte Day, temporarily;
Second Street at Main and Second Street at youth B, South A Street at
First Street and South A a~ Third Street, and that the City employees
be instructed to assist the Fire Chief until one o'clock on that day.
Carried.
Apple. The City Secretary reported another application had been handed in for
the City job. Application was ordered placed on file.
Mai nt. Motion by Ruff, second by Norris, that Isaac Kibodeaua be hired as main-
~'~~':an tenance man for the Street & Alley Dept. at fifty cents par hour.
Carried,
Depository Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the City renew the contract with
the First National Bank as Depository and that a requirement of collateral
in the amount of ~15,000.~30 be included in the contract.

Bonds The City Secretary presented one cancelled City of La Porte Sewer
ret~_red Funding Bond No. 3 and four City of La Porte Refunding Bonds No. ~'
18,19,2® ?~. 21,paid and cancelled, to be Burned.
Motion by Agee, second by Johnson, that City of La Porte Sewer Fund-
ing Bond Numbered Three(3), in the principal sum of .~500.OO,Five Hund-
red Dollars, dated May lOth,1938 and due April 10,1941, and
City of La. Porte Refunding Bonds No. Eighteen(18), Nineteen (19),
Twenty(20), and Twenty One (21), each in the principal sum of One
Thousand Dollars($1,000.00), dated October 10,1931.E and due April 10,
A.D. 191~1~ be turned over to the Mayor and City Secretary, to be des-
troyed by fire in the presence of the City Counail and that proper
affidavit of this action be presented at the next City Council meeting.

?viuldooxl The City Secretary called the attention of the Council to the recoa-
Bal. medation of Learned ~ Tapp in the 19J1 audit that the balance of ~1a.6.65
due the City by A.A. Muldoon,Lstate, be considered as uncollectible and
charged off the City books. Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the
City Secretary be instructed to charge off the uncollectible balance of
~l~6.65, owed by A.A. Muldoon Estate, to the City.
Carried.
Trs,ffic The Police Committee Chairman asked the Secretary to instruct L.L. Price
Sign to remove the NO II TURN sign from the Five Points Traffic Light, to avoid
confusion.
Sewer Motion by Ruff, second by Agee, that the matter of the sewer condition
at the Wilma Hoover Spencer place be turned over to the Sewer Committee
with power to act.
Carried.
The City Secretary was instructed to place on file the news letters from
the League of Texas Municipalities.
6" line Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the City Council authorize 6 "
Bayridge line to be installed to Bayridge, to be paid for out of the Special eater
Improvements Fund, and the 4~ater Committee to outline the said improvements.
` Carried.
There being no further business to come before the meeting , on motion by
Agee and carried by those preset tt~:f~ meeting adjourned.
