Street between South Broadway Street and First Avenue. Motion by Ruff,second by Norris, that this letter be placed on file. Carried Special Elec. The City Secretary reported that the Street Light on the N®rt'r~ side of Main Street between 3rd and r.~th Streets had been ordered turned on by Ald. Agee the second week in May. State I~L~otion by .Agee, second by muff, that the followinS resolution be adopted: i't~aintenence RESOLUTION OF Iu.~TI~ICI?ALITY ~~OR STATE MAINTENANCE OE PROJECTS CONSTRUCTED Hiway 1~}6 IN CITY LII~~!ITS, WHEREAS, the str>ets of the city of La Porte, Texas, are within the jurisdiction and control of the City Council of such city; and WHEREAS, the State Highway liepartmant of Texas intends to spend certain funds within the corporate limits of this city on State High- way No. 11.6; and WFIEREAS, it has been the general policy of the State Hig-away Departm©nt to maintain highways within the corporate limits of cities and towns of less than 2,500 population whk3re the corporate body of such city or town requested such maintenance; and WHEREAS, the City cf La Porte, Texas was, by the latest United States census, shown as less than 2,500 population THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, as represented by the City Council, that it desires and requester the State Highway vepartment tt~ n~~int~Ain the imprivements to be made on Highway No. 11x.6, within the corporate limits of La Porte, Texas, to such extent, and in the mariner desired by the State Highway Department, and further agrees that it will not repeal or amend any pro- f~isions of this resol~.zton without substituting therefor a Resolution, satisfactory to t}~e Highway Department, making ample provisions each year fo's• the Taintenance by the City of La Porte of the aforementioned improve- :aent s . Motion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the following resolution be adopted: RESOLUTIQN OF MUNICIPALITY REGARDING TRAr^FIC REGULATION CN STATE HIGh'WAY. WHEREAS, the State Highway Department of the State of Texas is desirous of constructing State Highway No. 116 through the city of La Porte over Broadway and 'pest '~'Iain Streets; and WHEREAS, the State Highway Department of Texas will not participate in the construction of said highway until and unless the 8ity of La Ports will agree to refrain from permitting encroachments upon the rightof way of said above mentioned streets, and until and unless the City of La Porte will agree to refrain from passing ordi- nanees or laws fixing a speed limit of under twenty miles per hour on said above mentioned streets, and until and unless the City of La Porte will agree to refrain frozn erecting signs, semaphores and signals that will give preference to local routes or that will hinder or delay traf- fic on said above mentioned streets. THE~?EFORE. be it resolved by the City Co~anci.l of the City of La Porte that, for and in consideration of the State Highway De- Partmen~ of the State o£ Texas constructing Highway No. 116 through the City of La Porte over Broadway and ~~~est Main Streets it hereby,: '~` agrees with the State Highway Department of the State of Texas that it will not, in the future, permit encroachment on the right-of way of said above mentioaxa:i streets; nor ~fi11 it pass an ordinance or laws fixing a speed limit on the above mentioned streets of under twenty miles per hour; nor will it alloro+r the erection of signs, semaphores, and signals that will give preference to local routes which intersect with said above mentioned streets nor that will slow ups hindaz~ or de- lay traffic on said above ment-?onad streets; nor will it repeal or amend any of the provisions of this rasol~xt.on without the consent of the State Highway Cozn,nisaion. Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the City Council appropriate the amount of X35.40 per. man to send two delegates to the conven- tion of State Fireman and Fira Marshals of Texas at ~~ichita Falls, Texas, June 10,11 and 12,191.x1, selection of delegsaes to be left to the descretion of the Fire Department.
