MIN[ITES LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL ` JULY 28,191.1,8 ; 00 P.M. i ~{-, Meeting was called to order by Mayor Sharp with the fallowing Counoilmen and City officials presents C.M. Agee, J.T. Johnson, C.F. Norris, F.R. Ruff, City Attorney J.S. Kiibler, City Secretary Lambly. AQinutes ®f the last meeting were read and approved. Tunnel Messers. Shannon Morris of Polly and Jake fluters of Baytown appeared before the City Council and presented the matter of a tu~el project between La Porte and Tri-Cities. No action was taken by the Council. Percent. Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the percentage of water Cell- Water Coll. eotions to be deposited in the Speoial Water Improvements Fund as set out in the minutes of November 27, 1938 be changed frosa twenty five per cent to fifteen percent, that this action be made retroaotive to April lst,1941 and that the Mayor and City Secretary be authorized t• exeoute a Warrant transferring the difference in amount from the Spec. ial Water Improvements Fund to the General Fund. Carried. Refund Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that a refund of X1.50 be made to E. Haaoke on Eleotrioal Permit No. 1~2L} , singe re -looation oP meter was necessitated by City's request that trees be cuts on Haacke place. Carried. Warrants Motion by Johnson, second by Ruff, that the following Warrants in the amount of X318.80; # 4546,Mrs M.O.Lambly,City Secy.~300.00~ 4551,Morris Stevens,~8.1}0;~ 4552,Geo.Simon,~3•?_Oif~4555,Geo.Simon,~1.60~ 4556,Morris Stevens,~5.60 a be ratified. Carried. Reduction The City Secretary presented a letter from Hughes ~dbtor Co• asking Value that the valuation of their Stook of AutoB. be reduced on the 191,0 Tax Roll from X3,000.40 to X2,000.00. Motion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the City Tax Collector be authorized to reduce the value of Hughes Motor Co. Stoek of Autos. on the City 1940 Tax Roll from X3,000.00 to X2,000.00, make the proper cancellation on the Tax Roll and notify the Hughea Motor Co. of the aotion of the Council, by let- ter. Carried. C~rrespnd• Letters from Olin Culberson,Seoy. State Firemen's Assn. and from Rev. Roy E. Cooper,Pastor of the First Baptist Church of La Porte were read and ordered filed. Budget Mayor Sharp presented the proposed Budget for the fiscal year of April 1,1941 to March 31,191.2• Motion by Johnson, second by Ruff, that this proposed budget be accepted, Piled in the office of the City Secretary f®r inspec- tion by the public, that a public hearing be held on September 8, 191.0. at the City Hall at La Porte, Texas at 8;00 P.M. and that proper notice of such hearing be published in the official news- paper. Carried. over r ~ ~,:~ .;,~ Street Lights Motion by Ruff, second by Norris, that additional street lights be ~~ turned on at the Shannon building on Plain Street and at the Johnson Building on Main St• Carried. Lot 23,Blcck Motion by Agee, second by Norris, that the Mayor appoint an in- bO,L.P. dividual to negotiate for the purchase of Lot 23, Block 60, La Porte. Carried. Rental,vacant The Mayor reported that the La Porte Printing Company wanted to building rent the City's vacant building on Lots 20 & 21, Blook 39, La Porte. Motion by Agee,second by Johnson, that the City offer to rent the building on Lots 20 & 21, B1ook 39, La Porte to the La Porte Printing Co• for the sug of X25.00 per month for the period of one year, the total rental of X300.00 to be paid in advance and that the La Porte Printing Co. repair the building before occupancy. Carried. County Health Mayor Sharp presented the Proposed Set-up and Finanoing of Stand- Dept. and State Appr©ved Harris Cotinty Health Dept. stating that the total cost would be ~1.~$,000.00 of which the Mun~tiaipalities of the County were being asked to assume ~1~,710.00 and that La Porte's pro-rata part would be ~3?5.00. after some discussion Ald• Ruff offered a motion, seconded by Johnson, that the Mayor be authorized to oontact County Commissioner R.E. Turrentine in the matter before any action should be taken by the City in the matter. Carried. Small Maps Motion by Ruff, seoond by Johnson, that the City Secretary be auth- prized to order one half dozen small maps printed from the negative which the City has on hand. Carried. L.E. Erxin Motion by Agee, seoond by Johnson, that L.E. Eravin be employed by the City during the time that L.L. Price is on vacation, to take care of Walla and Lift Pumps at the su~a of X1.00 per day and that he be paid at the rate of per hour for all additional work done for the Cit„t from July 25 to August 7,191x1. Carried. 'Hater Line Motion by Ruff, seoond by Johnson, that the City Secretary be in- Bids structed to get bids on the job of Water Line Extension, specifi- cations to be outlined by the Water Committee and bids to be can- - vassal at the next regular araeting.
