Meeting was oalled to order by Mayor Sharp, with the following Council ~enbers and City Officials present: Ald• C.M. Agee, J.N. Johnson, C.F. Norris, J.J. Roark, F.R. Ruff, City Secretary La~ably• Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. W-G,bi11 Motion by Agee, second by Norris that the bill oP Manufaoturers Trust Co• for postage in the amount of X0.93 be allowed and ordered paid and that the bill of Worthington Garcon Meter Co. for 50 meters in the amount of ~1.~27.00 be allowed , to be paid at a later date. Carried. City Attorney Kiibler came into the meeting at this point. Street C.M. Agee made a report on the placing of the new street lights that are Lights to be installed and maintained by the Houston bighting&Power Co• accord- ing to their new agreement. A Street light will be placed by the Coapany in each of the following locations, designated by the City: One at the School House, one at the Community Church, corner of 1st & A•, one at the First Baptdst Church,corner of 2nd & No• A.,one at St Marys University, one at the Masonic Hall,corner of 2nd & So. A., one at 3rd. & So•R•, one at 4th do So. D., one at 2nd & So. C., B~otion by Ruff ,second by Johnson, that the report of Ald. Agee be accepted by the City Council. Carried. ^2 • State Hiway A letter from F,T. Lipscoab,Asst. Dist. Engineer, on Out~all Ditch Dept S. Highway ].1~6, addressed to C.F. Norris,Chairman St.& A ley Con. was ~~ read and ordered filed on notion by Agee, second by Ruff; and Carried. Firemen's Letter and report of attendance and School Firemen's Training School at A.& M. was read and ordered placed in Fire second by Johnson and Carried. Bids,Hose Motion by Ruff, seoond by Johnson, of Fire Hose. grade of Fire Chief Wilson at State College, July 20 to 25,191.1, inclusive, Chief's file, oa notion by Ruff, that the City ask for bids on 600 Peet Carried. Affidavit The City Secretary presented an affidavit on the printing of the notice of Budget hearing for Sept. 8th,7.91.~].. This was ordered filed. Manhole & Motion by Johnson, seoond by Norris that the bids on building of Manhole Sewer Bid and Bew~er line be opened Carried. One bid was offered by Carl Currie,21.~0l~ Alabama, Houston, Texas as fol- lows: One hundred ninety three dollars,(~193.00) for one 14' manhole and 100' ~*!~ 6" sewer line., more sewer line at the unit price of 50~ per lin- ear foot. Bid was ordered filed. Motion by Ruff, second by Agee, that the Sewer Co:emittee be instructed to get a corrected figure on this bid and be given power to act. Carried. Shell Bid The City Secretary reported that only one bid was received in response to request for bids on shell, being frox Horton & Horton an the basis of their letter of May 27,1917. as follows: X1.60 less .15~L per cubic yd• on mud shell delivered to La Porte, tail gate spread Shelling Motion by Agee, seoond by Ruff, that shelling of streets in San Jacinto Homes Sub-Div. be turned over to the Street & Alley Coamittee to work out. Carried. p~tehing ?lotion by Agee, second by Ruff, that the City buy 50 yards of shell f®r patching of streets in La Borta. Carried. Ord. So.W. Be11The City Attorney presented an Ordinance offered by the South~estern Bell Telephone Coy as a franchise to the City for a period of twenty years. "Motion by Ruff, seconce by Roark, that this Ordinance be planed on file and that a letter be written by the City Secretary to the Telephone C©. asking that the Coapany send a representative to the neat regular City Council xeeting to discuss their proposition with the City Council. Carried. Specif. Ald. Ruff presented specifications on the proposed Water Line Extension ~. Water Line on which bids had been ordered at the last regular meeting and asked that ~ they be read and that the Council give him instructions. Motion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the City Attorney investigate report the requirements for the construction of the proposed Water Line Ex- tension and report at the next regular meeting. Carried. Sepcf. Motion by Ruff, second by Aga®~ that the specifications on Water Line filed Extension be placed on file. Carried.
