Meeting was called to order by Mayor Ruff with the following
Aldermen and City officials present: Ald: T~. D. Burgin, J. N.

Pltinutes of the last meeting vrere read and approved.
Bills Motion by Roark, second by Burgin, that the following schedule
of bills in the amount of ?301.51 be allowed and ordered paid.

Letter The Secretary presented a letter from C. V. Milligan in regard to
C.V.Mi~;~i- t-ie 1943 valuation of his property listed as All of Block l~22, La
gan ~mnte. `
P4otion by Johnson, sec~rc~ by Roark, that the valuation of this
property be left as fix~duby the City Equalization Board for 1947
and that the City Secretary be instructed to write Bir. Lilligan
to that effect.

action of of City taxes be turned over to the Tax Committee.

~` Letter The Secretary presen ted a letter fron Brown & Root, Inc., dated
Brawn 8c Povember 5, 1943, stating that if at any time prior to November
Root,Inc. 1, 191.;4, the City Engineer ascertains that any dama~:e to the 8"
asbestos-ee~e~st sewer line is caused byy failure of thrust blocks
at bends in the line, that they will m$ke the necessary repairs
to the line at no cost to the City.

Sewer Job Mot£uon by Johnson, second by Roark, that the City accept the
accepted sevrer job of Brown &' Root, Inc.

Assistant The following applications for the position of Assistant City
City Secre- Secretary vrere presented; Firs. Dorothy Allen, Mrs Berti.e Siefert,
tart' Itilary Edith Pierce. Motion by Roark, second by Johnson, that
P~Tary~Edith Pierce be employed by the City as Assistant City
Secretary, to begin at a salary of X75.00 per month, as of October
29, 1943 •

Resolution P.iotion by Johnson, second by Burgin, that the following resolution
be adopted;
~REg.S, the City of La Porte has heretofore passed. and.
approved Ordinance No. 261, regulating traffic upon the public
streets of the City of Ie. Porte; and
1'YHEREAS, such Ordinance provides that the City Council
shall, by resolution, determine and designate the character of all
official traffic signs and signals and shall designate the location
where the same shall be installed; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas
has determined, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic in-
vestigation that the maximum reasonable and prudent speed over and
along that section of 4~est Main Street, between the intersection of
Broadway Street and 1~test P,iain Street, is Twenty(20) miles per hot~r,
taking into consideration the vaidth, condition of the pavement and
the amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, over, along and
across suoh section of West main Street;
NOV'r, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLti~ED BY T?-IE CITY COUNCIL OF ~;;~:
THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS THAT:
The operation of a motor vehicle or any other vehicle,
hovrever propelled, over and along Weat Madn~Street, between Broadway
Street and Tenth Street, at a speed in excess of tvrenty miles per hour
is prhhibited and that such section of l~'Test Ydlain Street shall be a
"20 mile per hour" zone for traffic.
The Police Committee is hereby authorized and instructed
to plane 20 mile speed signs at the intersection of ti7est Main Street
and Broadway Street and at the intersection of l~~fest Pain Street and
Tenth Street.

Resolution Illotion by Burgin, second by Johnson, that the following resolution
be adopted:
GlI~EREAS, the City of La Porte has heretofore passed and

CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS THAT:
Traffic moving over and along South Fourth Street in a
Northerly direction shall stop before entering the South crosswalk
of the intersection of such Street with 11Yest ruin Street; is
Traffic moving in a Northerly direction over and along
South Seventh Avenue shall stop before entering the South cross-
walk of such Street with East Main Street.
The Police Committee is hereby authorized and instructed
to property mark and sign, with"stop" signs, the hereinabove mentioned
intez•sections at the proper places.

ALL FORMER ORDINANCES IN COR'FLICT HEP?''~.'?T~fi, ENACTING THE NECESSARY
BHOVISiONS INCiDFNT TO THE OBJECT AND PIlRPOSE OF THIS ORDINANCE
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, BE adopted as read.

Diuap truck ~4otion by Burgin, second by Roark, that a committee be empowered
to purchase a hydraulic dump truck for the City. ~
Carried.
Property Motion by Burgin, second by Johnson, that C. J. Wilson, as property
officer officer for the City of La Porte, be authorized to distribute OCD
property to the citizens of le. Porte
Carried.
Reroofing Motion by Johnson, aeoond by Burgin, that the estimate of Edward
City Bldg. Cowley, on reroofing of City Building on:L•ots ~Q and 21:, Block 39,
la Porte, be turned over to the Building Committee, also that the
Building Committee investigate Insuranne policy on said building
and put in claim.
Carried.
