LA PORTL CITY COUtdCIL
AUGtTST 14, 1944, 8:00 P.M.
Meeting was called to order by Mayor Ruff with the
following Aldermen and City officials present: Ald.
M. D. Burgin, J. N. Johnson, Geo. F. Norris, T. F.
Smith, City Secretary Christensen.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Bills Motion by Burgin, second by Smith, that the following
schedule of bills in the amount of X363.32 be allowed
and ordered paid.

Petition The Mayor read a petition, signed by 11 property owners,
Garbage concerning the dumping of trash and garbage on the
sidewalks, streets and vacant lots in the City. The
Mayor appointed the Street and Alley Committee to in-
vestigate this complaint, and also the dumping of
garbage and trash on C Street between 2nd and 3rd.
Application The Secretary read an application for City Marshal from
City Marsh. Mr. J. E. Johnson.
~~~ Motion by Norris, second by Smith, that the Police Comm.
be appointed to investigate this application.

Budget The Mayor presented the proposed Budget for the fiscal
year of April 1, 1944 to March 31, 1945.
Motion by Smith, second by Johnson, that this proposed
budget be accepted, filed in the office of the City
Secretary for inspection by the public, that a public
hearing be held on September 5, 1944 at the City Hall at
Za Porte, Texas at 10:00 A. M. and that proper notice of
such hearing be published in the official newspaper.

Envelopes Motion by Burgin, second by 16orris, that the City

opes, size 8 and 1,000 =1~ window envelopes, size 8 for
sending out tax notices.
Carried.
Typewriter The Mayor turned the matter of the repair of typewriters
