Assn., and that the Mayor and City Sec retary be authorized to issue a trarrant far this am©unt. Carried. Houston Light- The Secretary presented a check in the amount of $1,094.93, ir~g & Power Cs. from the Houston Lighting 8c Power C®., in payment fsr 191aIa. cheek of the Company's annual gross receipts from the sale •f electric energy to customers within the C~aty of La P®rte, as provided for in Paragraph 1 •f the C®mpany's letter of ~Y 15s 1941 and voluntary ad3ustment on street lighting and other services for the year 191. only. Motion by ~sasis~,~ second by Srnith, tha t the City accept the H®ustan Lighting & Psser Co. cheek. Carried. Houston "atural The Secretary also presented a check in the am®unt •f X521.17 Gas Carp. cheek from the Houston Natural Gas Corporation, in payment •f 2f r~sntal f®r privilege of using and occupying the streets, 276 easements, alleys, parks and~er public ways and places within the corporate limits •f the City •f La Porte, during the period from January 1, 19l.~. to December 31, 19l~l.}., together with report for year ended December 31, 19l;Ia.. Motion by Smith, second by Johnson, that City accept the Houston Natural Gas Corporation's check and report be placed on file. Carried. Tax Refund Motion by Johnson, sea©nd by Smith, that Mrs. Jeanrie King be refunded the amount of ~i~..91~ ~'or 1931 taxes an L®ts 29 and 30, Block 85, Bay Front, as these taxes had already been paid. This amount to be paid out of the General Fund. Carried. Letter-Delixquent The Secretary read a letter from Mrs. Clara B. Morse, dated Taxes January 12, 19l~5, in regard to delinquent taxes on Lots 6 t• 8 and 17 to 20, Elock 89, Bay Front, Lots 13 and 11~, Block 70, Bay Front and Lot 16, Block 188, La Porte. Motion by Benson, second by Johnson, that the Seeretar~ bheck the delinquent records and if taxes are due that statement be mailed t• Mrs: horse together with letter advising that the full amount of taxes due will have t• be paid in order to clear the lots from back taxes. Carried. Warrant X7236 The Cit~r.Sosrntar~r reperted;;tolahe _: ~guncil that Mr. H. ®. Haynes had reported to the City Office that City ~tarrant 7236, in the amount •f $3.86, dated January 12, 19)x.5, payable to Lee Lowery, had been burnt by mistake and stub cashed by him and deposited in bank which had been returned, and asking that the 6ity *sSU. anether`~rrant for this amount. Motion by Smith, seesnd by Johnsen, that The Secretary write Mr. Haynes requesting that stub be sent t© City Office, als• that City ste~fi ~ayme~t at bank qn this warrant and that a new warrant be issued withir_ a reasonable hsmgth.ef time. This motion was withdrawn. Moti®n by Benson, second by Johnsen, that Warrant Ne. 7236, issued to Lee Lowery, in amount of X3.86 be cancelled at the bank and new warrant issued. Appeiatmer~t Motion by Benson, second by Smith, that the appointment •f J. E. Aceepte~. ehnsen, as City Peach Offioer be accepted and salary bet at 100.00 per month plus X25.00 per month oar expense, that-salary bi paid semi-monthly. Carried. Taxicab The Mayor reported that the Office of Defense Transportation would grand a permit for taxicab service •n 10 mile radius. Motion by Benson, second by Johnson, that the City Attorney be instructed to draw up an Ordinance regulating taxicab service, subject tv appr®val of Council Carried. OF OIL AND GAS Y!iEELLS WITHIN THE LIMITS 0~ THE CITY OF LA P~RTE, TEXAS, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY I21 CONNECTION THERE9~ITH, PROVTDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION AND DHECLARING AN EMERC'ENCY, be approved ®n its second reading. The matter of discharging the Assistant City Secret~.ry was dis- Diseharge cussed by the Council and after thoraugh discussi®n, Metion was made by Norris, second by Benson, that the Assistant pity Secretary be discharged for inefficiency, effective February 15, 19l~5, and that the em 1®ying of a new assistant be vet;d on by the entire 6ouneil. ~0tion carried with all C©uneilmen present voting Aye.
