SPECIAL N~ETING
LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL

~~eetin~; was called to order by Mayor Ruff with the following
Aldermen and City offioials present: Ald. J. J. Roark, J. L.
Dunham, T. F. Smith, J, N. Johnson, City Att~-.. Kiibler with
Mr. Kiibler acting as Secretary.
A committee from the Chamber of Commerce composed of G. L.
McMillan, president and Geo: Poole, Secretary-Manager appeared
before the Council. Curtis P. Bower, representative from Texas
Airways, also appeared before the Council.

Air field Mr. ~'oole explained that it was possible for the City to
acquire the air field 2 miles west of La Porte on the Spencer
~iighway by having field declared surplus and by making an
offer for a nominal amount and agreement to maintain field
in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Civil
Aeronautics !luthority. He stated that the fi~3d had been
leased to I. B. '.JlQltz and Ludwig Fiedor of Houston. Mr.
Bower stated that hie company as wellas other compan3:es
would be willing to maintain field as required without expense
to the City.
Resolution Upon motion by Johnson, second by Smith, the following resolu-
tion was adopted:
STATE OF TEXAS
COUNTY OF HARRIS
~fiEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas desires to obtain
the auxiliary air field located about 2.6 miles Vest of La Forte,
on Spencer Highway, for the Qurpose of maintaining and operating
a modern and adequate air field for the use and convenience of
the public generally; and
~HEREA.S, the City is willing; and able to maintain said
air field for such purpose in accordance with the Civil Aeronautics
Authority's regulations and specifie~ations; and.
9FHEREAS, said air field has not been declared surplus;
NOP~, THEREFOR"', BE IT RESOLVED BY TFiE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LA PORTE, TF3C.AS: That the proper governmental agency
or agencies be requested to immediately declare said air field_
surplus and to convey the same to the City for the sum of Ten
Dollars 010.00) and other valuable considerations, that the
said City offer the sum of Ten Dollars 0 10.00} anc agree, ob-
ligate and bind itself to maintain said air field for the use
of the public generally, in accordance with the Civil Aeronautics
Authority's regulations and specifications and all other rules
and regulations required by the Federal Government in the
operation and maintenance of such air field; and further that a
certified Dopy of this resolution be forNrarded to the proper
governmental authorities, and it is so ordered.
