Meeting was called to order by T~Iayor Ruff drith the following aldermen and City Officials present: Ald. J. N. Johnson, Geo.. F. Norris, T. F. Smith., J. L. Dunham, City Atty. Kiibler, City 'Secretary aharp. T'~inutes of the last regular meeting of July 8, lgl.}6 and special meeting of July 10, 1g~.6 were read and approved. Motion by Johnson, second by Norris, that the bill of Mrs, TIa~ ~"~rilson in the amount of ~~0.00 for watching firc phone from July 1Z~th to July 20th be allowed and ordered paid. Carri~:d. Lotion by Sraith, second. by Norris, that the order to nay the bills in connection with the nev~T water well be passed, but that the bill of C. H, pielly, ~'ngineer be held up until final bill has been submitted. Tuff, T:layor J. N. Johnson, J. L. Dunham, ueor~e F. Norris, T. L'. Smith, Aldermen Mrs. Harold H. Sh,,rp, City Secretary Absent: J, J. Roark It appears that heretofore on or about tT-.e 28th day of Play, 19I~.5, the City Council of the City of La. Porte, passed an Ordinance ratifying contrs~.ct with Texac '1~ater `yells, Inc., for drilling and equipring the water well for said City, also contre.ct with Brawn and koot, Inc., for constructing extensior_s to water system, including installation of sand trap for said City, and making; provision to na.y therefor and for services incident thereto by the issuance of time warrants ir: the maximum amount of not exceeding. 025,000.00, bearing; interest at the ratc of h,' per ar..nur~ and maturing serially over a period of not exceeding twenty- five years from their date, and proiriding that such warrants should be executed and deliverer izr payment for such improvements after claims therefor shall:havc tech approved and allowed by the City Council of said City upon further ordersof the City `'ouncil. And it further apx.~ears that Texas ''Tatar {'`ells, Ina. has here tofore been paid-, b;,~ ~ra.y of partial payment, the amoLSt of ~~,t~51.78 and 389 that said Texas b~at~:r ~+ells, Inc., has fully perfor~:ed its contract and is entitled to the additional payment of ~6,0~8.86. It further apx,ears that Frown ~ Root ha.s fully performed i.ts contract a.nd is entitled to payment therefor in the amount of X5,852.42. It further appears that Houston Lighting d: Power Company-has constructed for said City in this conr-ection, an electric control line between the new'd~ater yell No. 3, and the automatic control swith, and is entitled to payment therefor in the amount of X182.62. In order to make payment with warra.Y~ts in even "1,000.00 denomination, the City is grouping v~c48.72 of this claim with the two above mentioned, so as to make the total to be paid in time warrants, even X12,000.00; leaving ~133.~0 of this claim, to be paid otherwise. It further appears that these claims have been m-udited and approved b y the City `'ouncil, a.nd that the City of La Porte does not have nor clai,:: any off-set or counterclaim thereto and that such claims should be approved a.nd t~llowed and paid as hereinafter more fully set out. It is therefore ordered by the City Council mf the City of La ]?o rte, Texas : That the hereir:beforc described claims are hereby approved and ordered. paid by the execution and delivery of the followir_r~ described warrants : Twelve City of La 1'o rte u~ater System j'Tarrants, dated October 10, 1Q45, be;~ring interest at the rate of ~ per annum, numbered 11 to 22 inclusive, in denomination of X1,000.00 each, a~~•regating X12,000.00, being a portion of an authorized issue of X25,000.00 such warrants. `1'he ti~ayor a.nd the City Secretary and the City Treasurer are hereby authorized., ordered and directed to execute and deliver such vrarra:its to the hereinbefore named contr~cctors, or the$r order. fiYYe foregoing order v,*as read, and it was moved by Alderman Smith and 'seconded by Alderman Norris that it be passed, and upon the question's being called it was unanimously passed, Alderman Johnson, Dunham, Norris, and "mith voting aye; and no one voting No. The 2~~ayor presented the Corporation Court ``eport from April ;27, 1946 to July 14, 1946. Potion by Johnson, second by Smith, that the ~'orporation Court ~~eport as presented by the ~"layor be accepted and lE':ayor's fees paid. Ca rried. Potion by Johnson, second by Norris, that the following resolutior_ be adopted: ~uhcreas, heretoPbre, the Tvayor of the City of La Porte pre- pared and submitted to the amity Council, at its regular meeting held on the 10th day of June, A. D. 1946, his proposed budget for the fiscal year April 1, 191.6 to Z~~sY•eh 31, 1947; and ~~Jhereas, the City Council filed such proposed budget with the Secretary of the City of La Porte on the 10th day of June, A. D, 1946, and designated that a public hearing on such budget be held at the City Hall at 8:00 P. i=~. on the 24th day of June,~l.D. 1946, and caused public itetice of such hearing to be made; and ~+hercas, such public hearing has been held; it is there- fore ordered by the Council that the budget, as prepared and sub- mitted by the r~'Iayor, is hereby finally approved by the pity Council and it is hereby ordered that a true copy of such approved budget, to- gether with a copy of this order, shall be filed in each of the offices of the Secretary of the City of La Porte, the County Clerk of Harrits County, Texas and the State Comptroller, at Austin, Texas. The Mayor reported that he had met with the Texas Bus Lines officials on rerouting of their buses and that they agreed to route buses as outlined by the City from Broadway to A w.nd A to 2nc_, thence South on 2nd to Pus Station, thence hest on 1+'iair.. . Motion by Dunha:r,, second by Norris, that a committee be appointed to investigate the lighting system ir. the City office.
