LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 26, 1946, £3:00 P. Tit.

Meetixg was called to order by P~Iayor Ruff with the
following Aldermen and City Officials present: Ald.
J, N, Johnson, J. J. Roark, T. h. Smith, J. L. Dunham,
City Atty. Kiibler, City Secretary Sh.prp.
Minutes of the last regular meetin~• of August 12th and
special meetings of August 16th and Au~st 22~ad were
read and approved.
Motion by Johnson, second by Smith, that the b-ill of
1~un1C3.pA1 Supply Co. in the amount of X153.85 be a1loVred
axid ordered paid.
Carried.
NIr. Geo. Counts presented a petition from the La Forte
Volunteer Fire impartment req_uesi;ing that Chas. J. ~yilson
be re-instated as Fire Chief at the monthl}r income of
X185.00 plus house a.r_d utilities.
Motion by Smith, second by Roark, that this petitior. be
accepted and placed on file.
Mr. Con~-ts also presented a. petition f rom a number of
citizens and tax payers of La Torte and the surrounding
~' area requesting that the Mayor ar:d City Council re-instate
Chas. J. Vlilson as Fire Chief with an increase in salary.
Motion by Smith, second by Roark, that this petition be
accepted and placed on file.
Carried.
Alderman Dunham made a motion to reemploy C. J. l~dilsox as
Fire Chief at the rate stated. in the netitiox from the
La Forte Voluxteer Fire Department and that the salary rye
retroactive to the time that he asked for a raise.
Alderman Johnson., stated that he was in favor of a. raise
beginning September 1st but xot ;50.00 per month. The
motion died for want of a secoxd.
Alderman Duxham then made a. motion to reemploy G. iJ. Y`~ilso~a
at the rate sta'-ed in the petition beginnixg September 1st.
Alderman Johnson stated that he was in favor of reemployin~;
N•r. V'Tilson at a reasoxable raise of 130.00 per month. and as
finances permit he be raised to ~50.ee. Ald:~rman fhznham's
motion died for want of ~; sccoxd.
-~'lderman Johnsox.made a motion to reemploy C. J. 'dtirilson at
a raise of~p30.00 per month. This motion died for vrant of

Alderman Dunham then asked Viz'. ~'~ilson if he would acceT~t a
~'~0~, 0 er month raise and as finances permit he be raised
~~ •~0 to which 2~dr. ti'~ilson agreed.

AldE rman Johnson then made a motion that Pvir. 1''Iilson be Pe-
employ~d at a X30.00 rr.S_se a.nd raised to 50.00 as finances
permit. AldermAn Dunham seconded this motio~a and the ~4ayor
asked fora roll call vote which follows: Roark, No, Dunham,
gye, Smith, No, Johnson, Aye, which was a tie vote and the

Mr. Fir_cher appeared before the Council requesting the Council
to give hi~~~: an CStll":a'tC on a water line from the end of the
City's supply line to his place on 10th and. J. fie was advised
by the Council that an esti~r~ate on this would be m.ad.e as soon
as possible.

The'City-Secretary presented the 1g~.5 Delinquext Tax Roll, as
of February 1, 19I~6, in the amount of X7,643.85 for examinatiox
by the Council. Notion by Johnson, second by Dunham, that the
City of La Porte Delixiquent Tax Roll in the amount of ~7,6).~3.85
as of February 1, 1946 be aprroved.
Carried.
Rlotion by Dunham, second by hoark, that the contrs+.ct between
the City of La Porte and y~yatt C. Hedrick be accepted and that
the ;~,siyor and City Secretary be authorized to sign same.
Carried.
Pdotion by Johnson, second by Dunham, that the water service and
cutting of grass at the Community house be gratis.
Carried'.
the P+~layor appointed. the Street and Alley Committee and the Police
Committee to make a survey of the main traffic lanes red pl^ce
necessary speed limit signs.
