LA PO RTE COMI4IISSION
May 1, 1947, 1:30 P. M.

Special meting of the Commission was called to order with
the following Members and Officials present: Commissioners
Pfeiffer and Crate, City Attorney Kiibler.
Commission Crate presented the written resignation of Mayor
Fred ~. Ruff. Upon motion by Crate, second by Pfeiffer,
the M ayor~s resignation was accepted and the office of Mayor
of the City of La Porte, Tea~as, was declared vacant.
Commissioner Pfeiffer presented the written resignation of
City Clerk Mrs. Harold"H. 9h~arp. Upon motion by Pfeiffer,
second by Crate, the City~Clerk~s resignation was accepted
and the office of City Clerk of La Porte, Texas, was de-
clared vacant.
Motion by Crate, second by Pfeiffer, to accept the resig-
nation of Mrs. Robbie Stabs, assistant City Clerk.
Carried.
Motion by Crate, second by Pfeiffer, that H. J. Pfeiffer
be appointed Mayor Pro-tem and to have all the power and
to perform all of the duties as Mayor pending the appoint-
ment of a person to fill the office of Mayor.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to employ J. E. Muldoon
as City Clerk, effective May 1, 1947, at a monthly salary
of X275.00, to be paid in semi-mo~.thly installments.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, that the City Clerk
furnish: a bond in the sum of ~15?00.00 conditioned as the
law requires.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, that the City pay
the premiums on all bonds for City employees and officials.
Carried,
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to send a certified
copy of these minutes to the First National Bank of La
Porte, Texas. Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate,

Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to employ Mrs. Raleigh
Erwin temporarily as Assistant City Clerk, at a salary of
125.00 per month, to be paid in semi-monthly installments.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to accept the resigna-
tion of Jack Moore, a City employe.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to employe Jno, S.
Kiibler as City Attorney, at a salary of 150.00 per month
to be paid monthly.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to ratify and affirm the
contract between the City of La Porte and Wyatt C. Hedrick,
engineer, dated August 31, 1946, for the balance of the term
of such contract.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Grate, that a Warrant be issued
for envelopes.
Carried.
Motion by Crate, second by Pfeiffer, to make the taps and set `
meter boxes at the Pfeiffer Apartments.
Carried.
lotion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to ratify the contract ,
with the La Porte Reporter for the printing of 2 500 two~ply
6x8 cards for census information on it's bid of 14.50.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to pay current bills and '
to pay Any Womack~s bill for garbage disposal at the City dump,
the latter bill out of the Special Incinerator Fund.
Carried.
Motion by~ Pfeiffer, second by Crate, that the regular meeting
of the Commission be held at 8:00 P. Pd. in the City Ha11 on
the first Monday of each calendar month.
Carried.
Motion by Crate, second by Pfeiffer,to place signs on Broad-
way leading to the City dump and on dump property at a cost
of X2"7.50.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, that the underground water
tank at the City Water Works be cleaned.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to appoint E. E. Boone
and A. H. Lambert as co-chairmen to appoint a committee to
check the population of the City in order to work out plans
for a Home Rule Charter.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, to employe George Fisher
as a full-time paid fireman, to be in charge of all the City
Fire Department equipment, to maintain the same and to answer
all fire calls, at a salary of "150.00 per month, payable in
semi-monthly installments, such employe to have the use and
occupancy of the garage apartment on the City property with
all utilities furnished by the City; such garage apartment

and utilities are of the value of 50.00 per month.
Carried.
Motion' by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, that R. P. Osborne
be appointed Fire Marshall and Electrical Inspector for
the City for the compensation of 10.00 per month for act-
. ing as Fire Marshall and 50~ of the fees collected for
.• electrical inspections as Electrical Inspector, and that
a bond in the sum of X1,000.00 be furnished by R. P.
Osborne.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate that the changes in
securities, dated April lo, 1947, between the City, the
First National Bank of La Porte, Texas, and the National
Bank of Commerce, Houston, be accepted and placed on file.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Crate, that the meeting
ad3ourn.
