Special meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. J. Pfeiffer, with the following members and city officials present: Commiss- ioners Jas . S. Crate, Jr. and Jas . E. Stewart, John T. I~ic Afee and John ~'7ithers, representing Y~yatt C. Hedrick, City Engineer, A. H. Lambert, Ed- itor and owner of the La Porte Reporter, Raleigh Erwin, Supt. of Public WorTo3, Jno. S. Kiibler, City Attorney, and J. E. Muldoon, City Clerk. Dlr. Fred L. Sharp, agent for the Ka.rpark Corporation, appeared before the Commission, and offerod the City 170 Automatic Parking meters for X71.50 each, and to be paid for out of 50J of the gross receipts. Motion by Stewart, seoond by Crate, to authorize the D~Iayor to execute a contract with the Karpark Corporation t o install 170 meters on both sides of Main Street from lath Street to the Five Point Corner, contract being subject to the City Attorney's approval. Carried. The Commission authorized Commissioner Crate to contact the Atlantic, .Gulf and Pacific Ccnn.par~y in an effort to secure three (3) 20~ - l~.8" Pontocros . Motion by Stewart, seoond by Crate, to authorize A. H. Lambert, Sr. to print 1000 parking tickets, three copies each, as bid X17.00, and 1000 traffic tickets, four copies each, as bid X26.00, upon approval of proof. Carried. Motion by Crate, second by Stewart, to authorize the South Texas Equipment Company to sell the small city grader for X2000.00, for 5~ commission and provided the City m~.y withdraw such authorizaticm at any time. Carried. Motion by Crate, second by Stewart, to authorize a ten day paid vacation for G. W. Fisher. Carried. The Commission instructed the City Clerk to write Dewey Triplett that he must connect to the city sewer system. D~lotion by Crate, second by Stewart, that the following Resolution be adopted: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the United States Fost Office Department is considering establishing house to house mail delivery inside the City of La Porte, and WHEREAS, the Post Office Department requires that the streets in the City be named in an orderly and systematic manner and that such streets ~5~ be marked, N06Y, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF C~:.ISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF LA PORTS, TEXAS, that streets and avenues inside the City be re- named, where necessary, to avoid confusion and to oomply with the Post Offioe Department requirements; that pe rnianent markers be placed at the intersections and avcnues of streets and avenues showing the name of such streetsnand the number of the adjoining blocks and, further, that such work be completed on or before June 15, A. D. 191.8, and it is so ordered, be adopted as read. Carried. T,Iotion by Stewart, second by Crate, to authorize the City Clcrk to pay in- cidental expenses (ie) Guaranty Title Company's charge for guarantee title, stamps and recording fees, on Block 1126, La Porte. Carried. The Commission instructed the City Clerk to varite the State Highway Depart- ment in. c3onnection with placing traffic signal lights at intersection of State Highway 225 (10th Street) and Main, and at intersection of State Highway ].Ia.6 and Five Points. T~otion by Stewart, second by Crate, to approve the release of the follow- ing bonds executed by the Maryland Casualty Company in favor of the City. of La Porte Bond No. 77000 -Behalf of Mrs. Ruth Huddleston Bond No. 7 32 - Behalf of Knox Adelbert T~orton Bond No. 71.x.779 - Behalf of ~~.
