MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING
LA PORTE CITY COMMISSIC~Id -March g, 1948
10:00 A. M.
Spaoial meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor
Pfeiffer, with the following members and City officials present : Com-
missioners Jas. S. Crate, Jr. and James E. Stewart, Supt. of Publio
Worlaa Raleigh Erwin, A. H. Lambert, Editor and owner of the la Porte
Reporter, John T. Mo Afee, representing i~ratt C. Hedriok, City Engin-
eer, John S. Kiibler, City Attorney, and J. E. Muldoon, City Clerk.
Mr. Herman. and Mr. Peabody appeared before the Commission and requested
an estimate of the cost of a water line from the City's mains to Outlot
5, Nebraska Syndioate. Their request was referred to Wyatt C. Hedriok,
City Engineer.
Mr. Neal Moore and Mr. Bryan Moore appeared before the Cosnnission in
eonneotian with the oost of water and sewer mains in Block No. 227.
1'he Commission authorized the Mayor to deal with the Houston Lighting
and Power Co., and make whate4er ohanges in the street lights that sae
neoessary to oonforai with Light Company's agreement.
Motion by Crate, second by Stewart, to transfer Allen B. Hannay,etux,
interest in that pertain water line agreement between the City of La-
Porte and others, dated August 10th, 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. James Ellis
Clegg, as per written instrument executed by Allen B. Hannay and wife,
dated July 30, 1947, to James Ellis Clegg and wife.
Carried.
Motion by Crate, second by Stewart, to authorise the City Clerk to
discontinue water billings to the St. John's Episcopal Churoh, and to
refund to them amounts paid; same being the policy aeoorded other
churches in the City.
Carried.
Mgtion by Crate, seoond by Stewart, to authorize the City Clerk to
oanoel the 1947 taxes on property owned by the St. John's Episoopal
Church in Blook 272, a.s same is used exolusively for religious pur-
pos es .
Carried.
The Mayor requested the City Clerk t o notify all oandidates to be at the
City Eall at 7x00 o'clock P. ~1. for drawing of names to be placed on the
city ballot.
Motion by Stewart, second by 'Crate, that the meeting adjourn.
Carried.
