Special meeting of the City Ccmanissian was called to order by &Iayor A. J.
Pfeifer,. with the following members ~d city officials prosent : Caa~missionsrs

Attorney, and J. E. B~uldoon, City Clerk •
89~. R"_ilton Beck and rhr. Richard BRc Kinney appeared before the Commission and
requested a plumbing ordinance similar to one used in the City of Houstco~., so
that all local plumbing woulca be installed by 13.k~e code.
The Commission requested rQr. Beak an@ Mr. Brie Kinney to contact Brim. "Red" Perry,
City of Houston plumbing inspector, for copy of orditaance, and any other infor-
matidts, he could furnish for variting a plumbing ordinance for the City 'of 'La-
Porte •
B+~• Shaffer and Julian Hovey appeared before the Commission, and requested a
tax be collected on all itinerant merchants, photographers, cedar post pedd-
lers, etc.
This 'eoxrunittee was informed that the Courts have held that a city ,has no pourer
to tax an occupation until legislature has declared such occupation taxable,
and the occupations that they had mentioned were not taxed by the State, e'henee

B~x. Irawson, representing The Layne-Texas Company, Ltd., appeared before the
Cosnnissian and agreed to sell the city a ddep well pump for No• 1 ti'Ve11, far

Motion by Jones, second by Crate, to purchase pump for No• 1 V~ell from The
Layne-Texas Co., Ltd., for $1981.1,.0.

B~otion by Crate, second by Jones, to let The Layne-Texas Go., Ltd., install
the pump for ~ 175.00 •
Carried.
Motion by Janes, second by Crate, authorizing the City Clerk to issue a check,
No• 2581, it the amount of X2,000.00 to Ernest L. Broarn, Jr., in lieu of good
faith thank v+fi.ich was deposited with the City to be held uni~.1 Mr. Frown had
ccanplied. with the terms of .his bid for Street and Incinerator Bonds.

WIl'HIN A CERTAIN AREA, DEFINING THE LIMZTS OF SIICH AREA, AND PRESCRIBING
A FINE NOT TO EXCEED FIVE DOLLARS FCR THE FAILURE OR REFUSAL TO COMPLY
WITH THIS ORDINAL E AFTER NOTICE,

The City Clerk read a letter from the Local Board of Educatia~n is which
they requested kthe city to take over full. ovssership, operation and mainten-
ance f,~arn. the school district, traffic lights located at "C" and BI-oadway,
and "C" and San Jac int o.
