LA FORTE CITY COMMISSION -AUGUST 30, 1~+9
10:00 A. M.
Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. J.
Pfeiffer, with the following members and city officials preserxt: Commiss-
ioners Jas. S. Crate, Jr., and Wm. P. Jonas; Supt. of Public V~Torks Raleigh
Erwin, Wm. Maness, representing Wyatt C. Hedrick, City Engineer, Jas. A.
Mc Cauley, Building & Plumbing Inspector, Carl C. Patrick, City Attorney, and
J.E. Muldoon, City Clerk.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Motion by Crate, secoa~d by Jones, to purchase three standard fire hydrants,
from Gaber Company.
Carried.
Motion by Jones, second by Crate, appointing Dr. P. J. Moak as City health
Officer, term of office to May 1, 1950.
Carried.
The Mayor handed the City Clerk a work order on Job No. l~.O10 directed to
Goyen & VYhitten, and ordered same filed.
Motion by Crate, second by Jones, that Ordinance No. 366B, being
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NU. 366 OF THE CITY OF LA POI~rE,
TEXAS: PROVIDING FOR TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF FRAME STRUCTURES WITHIN.

be adopted as read.
Carried.
Motion by Crate,. second by Jones, to reject all bids opened August 23, 1949
o¢i a shovel loader tractor, and to advertise fax' new bids; also to give the
bidders the privilege of submitting an alternate bid for like equipment,
same to be received until 10:00 o'clock A. M. Sept~nber 20, 191x.9, same to
be opened at 10:30 0' clock A. M. of s ame daffy.

OF A SPRAYING MAC33IBTE TO THE CITY BY THE FIRST NATIONAL BAN% OF I,A PORTS.
1NHEREAS, a great public necessity has existed within the City of La Porte
for a spraying machine to be used in the protection of the health of the citizens;
and,
1rt~REAS, the cost of the machine has been prohibitive to the City of La Porte
and the need for such equipment has been fulfilled by a most generous gift From
the First National Bank of La Porte, which has voluntarily purohased the necess-
ary equipment and donated it to the City;
1. RESOLVED: THAT, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of La Porte,
in behalf of the citizens of La Porte, express their sincere appreciation to
the said First Natianal Bank for its unselfish interest in the health and wel-
fare of our comnnuzity. In the past the personnel of the bank has demonstrated
unexcelled leadership in civic affairs and has done much to increase and main-
tain the o3vie pride so vitally necessary for our continued growth, and it is
with the deepest gratitude that we accept in behalf of the City of La Porte the
donation of the much needed spraying machine;
2• RESOLVED: THAT a Dopy of this Resolutian be delivered to the said
First Natiama.l Bank.

`the Commi.ssian instructed the City Clerk to procure prices on a metal building,
being approximately 2000 square feet.
Mr. Bryan Moore, of Moore & Moore Construction Co~apany, appeared before the Com-
mission and requested permission to block off part of Main Street in front of
the HoPey Hardware Ccmipany.
Motion by Crate, sec and by Jones, to permit Moore & Moore Canstruetiou Company
to block off that portica~. of Main Street in front of Hovey Hardware Camipany, and
not to extend to center of street more than a carts length.

Motion by Jones, second by Crate, authc¢~izing the City Clerk to issue a
check to South Texas Equipment Company, Inc., in the amount of ~69~..8I~, for
the garbage truck body, out of the Incinerator Fund.

The Mayor stated he had acquired a deer, and would like to give it to the
City. This would be a start f or a small zoo in the Cityts park that was
being contemplated. As they would have to fence the disposal site, the
deer c gild be kept there until the perk was acquired.
Motion by Crate, second by Jones, to accept the deer for the City.
Carried.
Motion by Crate, second by Jones, that the meeting ad3ourn.
