Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. J. Pfeiffer,. ~.vith the following mcsnbers and city officials present: Cormni.ssioners Jas. S. Crate, Jr., and wm. p. Jones, City Attorney Carl C. Patrick, Jno. Vdithers, representing Wyatt C. Hedrick; City Engineer, Raleigh Erwin, Supt. of Public Works, and J. E. R~uldoon, City Clerk. The A.4ayor ordered the bids opened and read aloud, which were requested on fence, on the lineal foot basis. The following bids were opened and read aloud: Coastal Fenoe Company Anchor Fence Division Yarborou h Fence Sales Company The Caa ~ence Co. of Houston Hurricane Fence Company The Commission instructed Public 1~Yorks Director to tabulate the bids and have ready for their next regular meeting. A brief disnnssion was held on fencing the water works property ixi Block ~.0, La- Porte. It was the concensus of opinion of the majority of the Commission to Fenoe only that part of t he property on which the water works are located. No action was taken at this. time. l+ir. John YYithers, representing 1',tyatt C. Hedrick, reported the contract with Cen- tury C onstru of ion C ompa~r had been completed, and his off ie a would notify the Texas Statc Highway Department. He also informed the Coaunissian that the State Highway Department had let the bid for their part of the work, to the Austin Construction Company. Commissioner Jones reported on Public Liability and Compensation Insurance. He stated that he found that many cities the size of LA Porte had dropped all in- surance, and set up a fund to take care of accidents when they oocured. After mush discussion, it was decided to give this matter more study. bfotion by Jones, second by Crate, to prohibit parking on the West side of 1~th Street, North of Fain Street, between Fdain and Polk Avenue. Garried. Motioa~ by Jones, second by Crate, instructing the tax assessor and collector to open the assessment rolls and to accept all renditions offered by property owm- ers in the City ai' La Porte, inoluding the newly annexed territory. The Commission unanimously agreed to authorize Ids. Hallie Wright to hire two additia~nal clerks if she thought they were needed in the bond election to be held lt'L.y 27, 1950. Carried. A brief discussion was held on the appointment of the City Healty Officer for tha year. It was deoided to talk to Dr. P.J. D4ock before m~iking the appoint- ment . r+~otion by Crate, second by Jones ratifying the issuance of Cheok No. I~121 to Century Caristruction Company, in the amount of ~8,389.1.~7. Carried.
