~- i ~~ MINUTES - RDIULAR MEETING LA PORTS QTY COMMISSION - FLB. 15, 1951 10:00 A. M. Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. J. Pfeiffer, with the following members and city officials present: Commissioner Wm. P. Jones, City Attorney Carl C. Patrick, Supt. of Public i~orks Raleigh Erwin, and City Clerk J. ~. Muldoon. Minutes of the last meeting were r ead and approved. Upon notion by Jones, second by Pfeiffer, Mercer D.Burgin i~as~appointed Commissioner of the Citya of La Porte, to fill the unexpired term of Jas. S.Crate, Jr., resigned. The X3,000.00 Bond of Mercer v. Burgin, as Commissioner, executed by a Corporate Surety, was read and approved, upon motion by Jones, second by Pfeiffer. Carried. The Oath of Office was administered to M. v. Burgin as Commissioner by Garl C. Patrick,ra Notarg Public. Motion b3~ ~ Buxgir~, second by Jones, to appoint ~q'm. P. Jones as Pdayor Pro-Tem. Carried. 1 The City Clerk read a petition and an imformal application for another taxicab service in La Porte, Texas. He also informed the Com.~nission that he had a petition from. the- present taxicab operator, 1~. A. Berg, alo:lg with his application for a renewal of his taxicab permit. After a brief discussion, upon motion by Jones, second by Burgin, to table all taxicab applications until their next regular meeting. Carried. Motion by Jones, second by Burgin, to grant the City's paid firemen one'(1) Twenty-Four (2!t) hour dapr relief each month, relief day to be set by-the Fire Chief, rate of pay to be the same as paid fireman's rate of pay. Carried. Motion by Jones, second by Burgin, to pay the La Porte Volunteer Firemen the balance due them~in the current (1950-1951} budget. Carried. 't2otion by Burgin, second by Jones, to appoint J. 0. Rollins as Fire Marshall, effective immediately, at rate of pay X25.00 per month; also for the City Clerk to order a Surety Bond for Rollins in the amount of X1000.00. Carried. The Commission unanimously approved a Power Contract with the Houton Lighting and Poorer Company. ~t A~ _ ,.. ~ .m., ~.,, , , ,_ .._ i • Motion by Burgin, second by Jones, authorizing civil Defense Lirector Frank R. Boyle, Sr., to purchase one used Burroughs typewriter, for $75.00, title to be vested in the City of La Porte. Motion by Burgin, second by Jones, authorizing Frank R. Boyle, Civil Defense Director, to purchase one filing cabinet, not to exceed X50.00. Carried. The. Commission authorized the Mayor to order 48 folding chairs for the Commission chamber, not to exceed $5.00 per chair. Carried. House Mover Bond No. 21001, Enderli & Heintschel, and House, Mover Bond N o. 21002, M. T. Pattillo,,were app roved by the Commission and ordered filed. Motion by Burgin, second by Jones, to accept Houston Lighting & Power Company's check in the, amount of X2765.57, in payment of their gross tax for the year 1950. Carried. Motion. by Jones, second by .Burgin, to adept Houston Natural Gas Corporations check in the amount of $939.59, in payment of their gross ta~c~ for the year 195©. Carried. Motion by Jones, second by Burgin, cancelling the School Police appointments and Bonds of Ben Taylor, Bond No. 823g15b00, N. B. Hill, Bond Iv'o. 9711~Ob, and W. W. Pack, Bond No. 90-001011. Carried. Motion by Burgin, second by Jones, that the follouring bills be paid: P" tit.
