Bolding appeared before the Commission in connection with his applica- tion for a taxicab permit, After considerable discussion, upon motion by Burgin, second by Jones, to deny T. E, Bolding a taxicab permit. Carried. ~~tr. Bolding was informed if at at~y time he could submit evidence of a de- finite need of another taxa.cab line, they certainly vaould give him a hearing. Carried. Rev. '~dillie Johnson of the Church of ~'hrist appeared before the Commissions and requested along-time least upon that portion of the land not being used by the City at their No. 1 ?"tell Site. He stated the Church intended to spend from5500.00 to X700.00 on this portion of land for a parizing lot for church members only. The Commission informed him that in their opinion they could° not give him a long lease, also it would not be practical to do so as the City might have need for this land at any time. They unanimously agreed to let him use the land, but advised him that the church t~rould be spending their money at their o:-m risk for the reasons mentioned. The City Clerk read a letter from the Hou--Port Aviation, Inc. ~ dated I~~Sarch 8th, 1951, in which they advised. the City their letter is intended as the required notice, that the present holder of the lease herein described, • Aou-Pest Avi_aticn~ Inc., elects to exercise its options tc rened~ this lease for each of the four (!~) permi.ssi.ble five year periods as provide d in the amendment to the lease as reflected in Ordinance ?do. 359. 191 ~ • The Commission instructed the City Clerk to file a idotice of Claim Z~ith the Aetna Casualty ~: Surety Compar~y, 370l~ Montrose Blvd., Houston, Texas, for one D.4ultiple Coin Parkir~; i~.7eter, 2-Hour P~?odel K. S. p. P. N. N., ~.d standard, costing X75.50, installed, which was totally d estroyed by James D. Heinrick~ Route 1, Box ~.7-A, La Porte, Texas, at 1: ~5 A. h?., February 25, 1951, tivhile driving aFour-Door 19l~0 Ford, LicEnse DIo. KB 9126. motion by Jones, second by Burgin, to appoint W. T. Buck, Electrical, Plumbing and Building Inspector, effective as of I~~ch 2, 1951, and to be compensated as fo].7.ov~rs: X50.00 per month, or if the total permit fees amounted to more than X100.00 per month, then he would be paid one ha~.f of th.e fees; also for the City Clerk to order a S~mety fiond for i~. T. Buck in the amount of X1,000 in favcm of the City of La Porte, Texas Carried. IJ1r. ~d I~Irs. E, V. Hamrick, IRrs. R, II. 2oda, et alp appeared before the Co:mni.ssion and requested the City to t ake same action on having dogs kept in their owner's yard, instead of running at large. This matter eras handed to the City Attorney fare opinion. T'rie City Clerk asked for instructions in connection with financing contemr- plated sewer line construction in Blocks 129 and 136, La Porte. The Cor-ti- mission inforned him that the City would finance those who would sign proper legal instruments t^rhich would give the City a lien upon their property for their pro-rata cost of construction pJ.us E~ interest for one (1) year. The City Clerk read a letter .from the La Porte-?~ayshare Chamber ~ Conunerce vrhich stated that their Poard of Directors had adopted a Resolution request- ing the City Cormlission to open and g rade 5th,' 6th and 7th Streets, between Avenue F and Avenue J. The City Commission instructed the City Clerk to write the oumer (Larry Nickel) of fence enclosing streets named in the Chamber of Commerce letter to have saz:~e removed by Peril 1, 1951. ~:Iotion by Jones, second by Burgin, to pay Harry Ralston for one-half monthis salary as ~.ectrical & P7_uMbing Inspectc~. Carried. The City Cormmi.ssion unanimously gave L. L. I14cKey permis lion to remove dirt along ditch side, being on Arizona adjacent to school property and South. • • :7 J~ Motion by Burgs n, second by Jones, authorizing Fire Chief Rollins to have American La France representative inspect. American. La France equipment (ie) City Fire Tracks. Carried. A discussion was held on the Corporation Judges position which was held by Richard Oslo rne, resigned. The Cifir Clerk read application from W.A. Arthur, Edgard J. Cade, and mentioned that Wra. V. Sullivan had called him in connection with this position. The Mayor stated that several people had offered their services to this position, to him. Upon motiari by Burgin, second by Jones, to recess this meeting until 10:00 o'clock A. M., March 21st, 1951, at which time they would appoint a Judge of the Cityts Corporation Court. Carried. Recessed at 1:00 o}clock P. M., March 15, 1951. ~darch 21, 1951 10:00 O~clock A. M. Mayor H. J. Pfbiffer called to order the meeting which was recessed at 1:00 otclock P. M., March 15, 1951, with the follovuing r^,embers present: Commissioners gym. P. Jones and bI. D. Burgin. A3ter considerable discussion, upon motion by Jones, second by 3~arg3n, to appoint George H. Counts, Sr., to the office of Recorder of Corporation Court. Carried. The City Clerk vfas instructed to have a X1,000 Bond e~cuted by a Corporate Surety Company for Mr. Counts, sad have him. sworn in to office. 3~i.n.utea vrere taken by Ph. D.
