Carried. • Mayor Burgin stated he would sign the ordinance upon approval cif our defense attorney, and the plaintiffs in this suit carrying out their agreements. This letter is written to confirm statement made to you by ~;Ir. Shepherd, of our firm, acting under authorization from our client, B. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, that in the event of -the adoption by the City Commission of La Porte of an ordinance disannexing the territory north of the main Houston-La Porte high- way, including the property of our client, and the dis annexation of such territory ti~rest of the railroad vrhich i s satisfactory to Humble Oil ~c Refining Company ar_d the dismissal of t he suit brought on behalf of Humble Oil & Refining Company and other property oomers, our cli~:nt, E. Upon the City of La Porte disaxuzexi. ng the territory in- volved in the lawsuit (less, however, the territory comprising the municipal airport and any reasonable strip connecting said city with s aid airport, should the city desire to so retain said territory as apart of the city), the rela- ~~'~i tors will f orthwith have said suit dism-i.ssed at their cost, and Humble Oil & Refining Compar~y will pay to the said City of La Porte fortl~rith an amount equal to the taxes claimed ~y the City of La Porte to be owing it by the said Humble Oil & Refining Company for the year 1951, less penalty and interest. Baugh, President of the La Porte Independent School District, appeared before the Comr~.ssion and requested the City to close East "F" Avenue, from Broad- way to Dakota, Texas Avenue from "G" to "E", and Tdontana from "G" to "F". The Commission unanimously instructed the City Attorney to draw an ordinance ~ closing these streets, providing the school district purchases the properties adjacent to these streets or commences condemnation suits on these properties. _. E ... x ~~, ~ ~ The purpose of closing these streets is for the reason the La Porte School Dis- . trict w~.ll utilize these grounds for buildings, playgrounds, etc. Motion by White, second by Rigby, instructi:~ the City Clerk to notify Mrs. Norma Sandel that she must pay her water account for water furnished to her Oa,lthurst water system by August 12th, 1952, and upon failure to do so, the water service would be discontinued without further notice. Carried. The Commission unanimously instructed the City Clerk to notify r~,s. Norma Sandel and Mr. Fred Martin that the City of La Porte would discontinue to furnish water service to their systems within 30 days. The Commission requested the City Clerk to compose a letter notifying those people who have grease traps to eligisiate same for sanitary reasons. P~Aotion by l~.te, secor~]. by Rigby, to raise the water tap charge from X5.00 to X25.00, inside the corporate limits of the City, and from X10.00 to X35.00 outside the corporate limits o.~ the City of Ia Porte, Texas. Carried. • Motion by White, second by Rigby, authorizing ,the City Tax Assessar~ & Collector to accept 1951 taxes on the de-annexed properties v~hout interest and penalties. Carried. The Commission vrere unanimously in favor of letting the Boy Scouts act as municipal officials for any Saturday they choose. Mr. T. F, Smith and Mr. j'~.A. Arthur, gave the Commission a report on their pro- gress on sanitation. The City Clerk read a letter from the Temple Lumber Compar~y, in vrhich they . offered to G2uit C1_aim Lots 18 to 28, Block 66, Bay Front, to the City of La Porte, ie, if they would assume all taxes assessed against it. The Commission animously agreed to assume all tax for a quit Claim deed on the property, and requested the City Attorney to notify the Temple Lumber Com- pany of their action. Motion by Rigby, second by ti'9hite, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
