Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by B~ayor M. D. Burgin, with the following members and city officials present: Commissioners L. R. Rigby and Robert A. White, Supt . of Public Works fir. A. Arthur, City Attar~ney Edward J. Cade, and City Clerk J. E. Muldoon. av.nutes of the last meetings were read and approved. Mr, D, S, Baugh and Mr. James Langston, representing the local Board of Education, appeared before the City Commission and requested the City to close rrFn Street, be- tween Broadway and Texas Avenue. The Commission tentatively agreed to grant their request, and requested the City Attorney to drag up the necessary papers as soon as the necessary inf c~rmation was furnished to him. ~5r. Baugh asked about the City furnishing the school, water to the new proposed school site in Block 2~.5, La Porte, and the cost cf constructing a line and placing a art meter, The City agreed to construct a 3't water line from their 8" fire line and crossing Broadway at trFrr to the south~rest corner of Block 2l~5, La Porte, and to furnish a art water meter, The City agreed towrite the School Board a letter as to the cost of this work as soon as the Public y~orks Superintendent could furnish them with the price. ltd'. C. ~d, Peeples, representative of the United. Bankers Life Insurance Company, Dallas, Texas, appeared before the Commission for the purpose of interesting them, and selling a group Hospitalization Policy on the City employees. The Commission inf ot~med Mr. Peeples they would make a survey ancl. see how many employees would be interested. They suggested he contact them at a later date fare their answer. Mr. Ernest L. Broom, Jr., Bond Broker, appeareed before the Commission and talked at length upon the tort emplaced street and building borui. issue. ~~1r. Brown sub- nitted acontract to the City for his services, and in which he set out the services he was to perform as we]1 as his fee, such fee being 1~ of the bonds or warrants issued, such fee to b e paid out of the proceeds from the sale of such securities,-and to be paid as securities are actually issued, delivered and paid .for. Upon motion- by White, second by Rigby, to employ l~dr. Ernest L. Brown, Jr., in accordance with the ter~-s as read from the contract. Carried. The Commission unanimously gave their permission to have street lamp pole moved from Arizona Street adjacent to school work shop, to across street. J,~. Motion by White, second by Rigby, that the folly Resolution be adopted: RF~OLUTION tiVHF..ftEAS, heretofore, the Mayor of the City of La Porte prepared and submitted to the Board of Commissioners at it's meeting held on October 2, 1952, his pro- posed budget for the fiscal year July 1,1952, to June 30, 1953; and, WHEREAS, the Mayor filed such proposed budget with the Clerk of the City of La Porte for public inspection; WHEREAS, the Board. of Commissioners designated that a public hearing on such budget be held at the City Hall at 11:00 A. M., on October 16, 1952, and c aused saoh public notice of such hearing to be made and published Oct- ober 9, 1952; WfRREAS, such public hearing has been held, and is .therefore ordered by the Board of Commissioners that the budget as prepared and submitted by the Mayor is hereby finally approved. by the Board of Commissioners, and it is here- by ordered that a true copy of such approved budget, together Frith a copy of this order, shall be filed in each of the offices of the Clerk of the City of La Porte, the County Clerks s off5.ce, Harris County, Texas, and the State Comp- troller at Austin, Texas. Carried. Motion by White, second by Rigby, that Ordinance No. 2135, being AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING ~R THE LEVY, ASSESSMENT AND COLLECTION OF AD VALOREM TAX FCR THE YEAR 1952, OF AND AT THE RATS' OF X1.50 ON EAC~i $100.00 VALUATION OF TAXABLE PROPEt~TY IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYItdG THE INT~R~T ON, AND A SINKING FUND FOR, THE REDEMPTLON OF "CITY OF LA PORTE REFUNDING BONDS, s~R~s 193l~", "CITY OF LA PCRTE SEVER FUNDING BOND, SIl~tIES 1938", "CITY OF LA PCR.TE SEWER REFUNDING BONDS, SII3.I~S 1921.", AND "CITY OF LA PORTE WAa~R SYaTEI'd Rg'tTNDING BONDS, SERI•E.S 19.6", "CITY OF LA PORTE STREET I~- PROVEBH+NT BONDS, SERIES 19219", AND "CITY OF LA P(~i.TE GARBAGE INCIN- E3ATOR BOND6, SERIES 19219", AND FOR PAS CURRr~TT EXPENSES OF SAID CITY,, be adopted as read, Carried. The Commission unanimously authorized the Mayor to proclaim the meek of Nov. 2 to November 8, as F. H, A. Week. Pdotion by Rigby, second by Y~hite, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
