D. Burgin, with the following members and city officials pz•esent: Commissioners - - L. R. Rigby aryl Robeirt A. I~lhite; Police Chief ':'latter xoberson, City Attorney ~: ;.:.:, Edward J.Cade, and City Clerk J. E. Iduldoon. ~~ l~~r, lsiason and Mr. Schinnamon representatives of the Houston Natural Gas Cor- _ '`''~ ~ • ~~,.- par°ation were also esent. = This meeting was called far the purpose of discussion of t he proposed gas rate ` increase, and to ascertain if there were any citizens ~°rho vrished to protest same. ,~ . - _ After much discussion, the I,fayor asked if there was anyone in the audience vrho wanted to talk on the gas rates, Tio one anstivered. Carried. The Commission instructed the City Clerk to have Ordinance Pdo. ~.Ja1. printed ;`;;:;~~i. _: ~, in the official newspaper, the La Porte Liberal. Chief of Police 1'lalter Ro'erson appeared before the Commission to discuss the agreement -that he had made ~~rit h the City. The Chief admitted he had made such - an agreement with former Commissioner YTm, P. "Bill" Jones, and fir, Burgin. _ -- _ The Chief stated he made this agreement when he was sick, and in pain, and '~~;=~~: ~ did not think the City would be treating him right if they held him to it. ~ He further stated that he had talked to a number of the business people of ;.;_: the City, and especially to those who had paid fcm his accident policy. He - ,.;';,~ stated these people thought the City was being unfair with him. He also asserted that his salary bras not enough for the amount of ~,rork he was doing, ~:}u' `~, . and in comparison to Vrhat other officers ti°r~re receiving in adjacent cities. ' ~ After much discussion, the Commission unanimously agreed to tivaive his agree- ment with the City, however, he (Chief Roberson) v7as to assume and pay all outstanchng drug and medical bi.71s, 1~~hich amount to approximately X100.00. Chief xoberson said this vTas fair and he ~rould assume all outstandis~.g and l~Zture bills pertaining to his injury. The Commission unanimously agreed this matter vas closed.
