Roberson, arx9. City Clerk J.E. Iluldoon. I;Sinutes of the last meeting vrere read and approved. A discussion ~~1as held on grass on vacant lots in the City of La Porte. After much discussion on this matter, the Commission unanimous7~y authorized the I:iayor to contact the C~i.ty Attorney, I:Lr, Cade, for the S~Triting of a contract,~~rtth some- one to cut the grass for the hay on these vacant lots. lotion by ??Ihite, second by Rigby, authorizing the City Clerk to pay notes in the amount of X15,000.00, to the bank, out of current general fund monies. Carried. Ildotion by ?'ihi.te, second by Rigby, authorizing the payment in the amount of 430,00, for three sheep and one lamb, to H. J. Pfeiffer, otiuner. Carried. I:iotion by','Thi.te, second by F.igby, •authorizing the City Clerk to issue a check to the Continental Casualty Company in the amount of X277,81, f or accident policy on the Volunteer ire Department. C arried . r~Ioti on by Rigby, second by Z7hi.t e, authorizing the City Clerk to accept and deposit in the General Fund, 41,182.89, same being 2 gross tax on ~59,1~.1a..~.0 business done in the City of La Porte by the Houston Natural Gas Corporation. Carri ed. The City Clerk presented to t he Commission an adjustm~t on t axes off Bred by ls. "rharton deems, for tY~ years of 1950 and 1951 on his properties. After looking over the ~talues offered by I,~. :teems, the Commission unanimously denied his request for a reduction of value. They held the City s Equalization Board had h eld meetir~~s ~~-ith property owners and that the values placed upon these blocks ~-rere the same placed upon adjacent blocks, that persons otr~ning property in this area paid taxes without complaint, and that the value is assessed at not mare than the reasonable cash market value.
