~NUTES - RDGULAR MEETIIJG ~A FORTE CITY CONIlULCSSION - PdARCH 20, 1953 t~:30 P. M. Regular meeting of theCity Comnri.ssion was called t o order by Moor Ad. D.Burgin, with the following members arxi city officials present: Commissioners L, 8. Rigby and Robert A, TiPhi.te, Supt. of Public Vtorks ~l. A. Arthur, City Attorney Edward J.Cade, and City Clerk J. E. Fdnldoon. I~3.nutes of the last meeting were read and approved. 10 ~, Mr. Jim Douglas, District Engineer, Texas FYigh~ray DepartmezYt, and dlr. D.S. Baugh, Presided of the local Board. of Education, appeared before the ~ammri.ssion to discuss paving, drainage etc., in front of the new high school that is being constructed on Flighway ]~.6, Mr. Douglas stated he did not have any surplus moneys in his budget for this work, but he waald make an effort to help them in this project, that is, if a R es oluti on was submitted to him t or this work, with grade plans . Further discussion was helri with Bdr, Douglas as to a by--pass road from the Tunnel. bar. Douglas stated that the highway departaaent had not given it much thought. Fie suggested that the City write a letter to the County, and have them comtn3.tt themiselves fcr the p~chase of Right-of Pay if the by--pass was decided upon. The Commission instructed the City Clerk t o write such a letter to the County arxi have them comni.tt themselves for the purchase of said right-af~ay. The Commission unanimously passed the follo+~ing Resolution: RESOLUTION ~.EAS, the Presisieut ~ the La Porte Independent School District met with the City Comni.ssion of the City of La Porte, Texas, at a regular meeting held Fdarch 20, 1953, at 4:30 P. ltd.., and WH~tEA.S, it was the request of said school district that State High~ray ].?ab from. the end of "E'~ Street to "G" Street, within the limits of the City of La Porte, Texas, be paved in concrete 3.n a like maxuier as that existing and extending North thereof adjacent to the other buildings of the La Porte Independent School District, and C~ 108 • • ~VfFiII3:EAS, the City Com~ission by unanimous vote expressed the necessity far such pavemment THE~EFQ~E, BE IT RESOLVED that t2~e State Highway Department be requested hereby to cooperate with the City of La Porte and the La Porte Independent School District under the cooperative plan whereby such paving is done is extending the pavement on State Highway 1.}.~6 from the end of "E" Street to "G" Street, v~:i.ch will provide pavement adjacent to the near school building being erected sauth of the present buildings. Carried. A discussion was held with the City Attorney i.n connection with belt condition at Imhoff Plant.
