D. Burgin, with the following menbers and city officials present : Commissioners ~, R.Ri.gby and Robert A. White, Supt, of Public Works W, A, Arthur, City Attorney Edv~ard J. Cade, and City Clerk J. E. I~fuldoon. Minutes of the last meetings were read and approved. Motion by Rigby, seccar~d by White, that Ordinance No. ~.(~ B, bei ng AN ORDINANCE AI~+IDING ORDINANCE N0. lt0~ A, FIXING HOUSE MOVING PHtPti~T FEES ~!'HIN THE CITY OF LA PORTS, TEXAS, AND CONTAINING A REPEALED CLAUSE, be adopted as read. Carried. The City Commission unanimously approved the new bus line schedule. Upon approval by the City Attorney of Midwestern Insurance CompatXy' Policy No. 521905 All. Coves P. L. P. D. far taxicabs, the Commission unanimously approved • the policy. Carried. Motion by White, second by Rigby, approv3sig Valley Gutter to be constructed along "A" Street, between First and Second, 1251 at x..65 per foot, at the rnme~ ~ s cost. Carried. A discussion was held an building, plumbing ar~d Electrical inspections and fees. It was the consensus of opinion of the Commission that for economical reasons, that a savixgs could be made by placing this office under the supervision of the Public 1Yerks Director. Motion h'Y White, second by Rigby to appoint W. A. Arthur, Public ~4Yorks Director, as Building, Plumbing and Electrica]. Inspector, at an increase in salary of $15.00 per month, comme2cing August 1, 1953, the present Inspector_to be, notified immediately of their action. Carried. A discussion was held. cn advertisement for the opening of the Baytowm-La Porte Tunnel. The Commission postponed action on this matter until they could give it further stucjy. • Motion by ~9hite, second. by Rigby, that Ordinance No. t~5, being AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TIME OF THE FIRST MEETIl~ OF THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, 1N 1953, be adopted as read. Carried. The Commission unanimously appointed Roy Shipp, Charles F. Norris and L. L. Rice, to the current Equ, a1i z ati on Board.- Carried. The Commission unanimous7,p apprcNed letting Roger Tolar place a building 10 x lOt in size far ~t5 days only, on Lots 13 to 15, Block 58, La Porte, for the purpose of selling watermelons, building to be removed itt¢nediately in the event grounds and building are n art kept in sanitary condition. The City Commission instructed the City Clerk to write the Texas Highway Depart- ment requesting thaw to participate with the City of La Porte in curb, vtter~ storm serer and paving bc3tw~een "E" Street and "G" Street, ,on Highway 1, the City of La Porte and the La Porte Independent School District to pay .for the curb and gutter and necessary storm seer, and the State to do the paving. They also instructed the City Clerk to write the Texas Highway Department, and request them to pave two onii.ssions in the pavement on Highway 225 (~dain Street) namely, i n frcait of East ~ 2 of Lot 13; All @f I.~., and the We s t ~ of Lot 15, Block 57, and Lots 13, l.~Iy 15, 18 and 19, Block 59, all in the City of Laporte. The City Commission instructed the City Clerk to write a letter to r~rs. J. L. Mc Comore, o of a house located on Cart b, Block 2, Sylvan Beach Add3:tion, >to izmnediately install a septic tams with proper drain fields. They have re- ceived many complaints of raw sa~rage flawing into the ditch from the house. The City Clerk read a letter from the La Porte Independent School District, in which they stated the Board, through formal action, had ~anteda right-of-~ay for drainage file along and through "E" Streets frown Broadway to the main drainage ditch on Arizona Street. Carried. • • 'Y Cases pending on the agenda, which had formerly been t,~rned over to the City Attorney, were discussed, and it was poa.rYted out that the cases had either been disposed of or were up to date, according to the reports theretofore made by the City Attorney to the Commission. Lien though the La Porte Independent School District had not furnished the City Attorney with specific information on the land acquired by the School. near the new school building, theCity Attorney was asked to draz~ an ordinance closing East "F" Avenue from Broadway to Dakota. Special attenta.on 4ras called by tY~ City Attca~ney to the claim by the Federal Government against theCity in the anourrt of X6,600.00 which was not o n the agenda. It was pointed out that negotiations had been conducted with the Federal Assistant District Attar~ney who advised that the Federal Gov~n~nt intended to file suit. TI~e City Attorney was instructed by the City Ccmmn.ssi.on to hold the case in abeyance, pending the filing of suit, rather than pay the claim.
