M, Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor ~.~. D. Burgin, with the folloe~ing membars and city officials present: Commissioners L. R. Rigby and Robert A. ?Nr~.te, Supt, of Public 'Ncrks VP. A. Arthur, ,City Attorney Ecl~tard J. Cade, and A s sip t ant City Cl~ rk Mrs . Etzl a Erv~ri.n. r~.nutes of the last meeting were read and approved. :~~oti on by White, second by Rigby, ratifying the payments t o B alto, Inc . , of ,Esti~~nate No. 2, in the amount of X11,760.20, warrant No. 9378, and L~stimate No, 3, in the amount of $19,379.66, warrant No. 9t~34. Carried. r ~. ,t i . :~ `~. "' -~'s;. TY~e City Attar~ncy, Edward J.Cade, repa'rted that he had filed an answer to the Federal. Gov~nr~ent,in connection v~rith Tex-1~i-P-551. The Co~nission unanimously agreed to set September 13th, 1953, as the week for "C1ean up Week in La Porte". The follovri.ng Proclamation to be published in the local newspapers: WHEREAS, official opening of '~ze Baytown-LaPorte Tunnel has been designated as September 22, and, ~VHCREAS, the City of La Porte and all of its residents desire that the city appear in a clean and ~n.itasy condition, and, TH~.~.ZEF'ORE, I, as P,iayor of the City of La Porte, do hereby proclaim the week of September 13th through September 19th as Clean Up Week in La Porte and ca11. upon. all of the citizens in this vicinity to give full support and cooperation to this program by removing ail debris, paintiz~ iraprov ements, cutting weeds and grass on ir.~proved and vacant lots on the preru.ses ~vhere businesses and private homes are located. A discussion was held on installing an Auxiliary diesel or gasoline engine at No. 3 water zve11 to b e used in case of power failure. 1S3 rf .z ,,~ T3~e Com~.ssion instructed W. A. Arthur, Public Z'~orks Superintendent, to check over a diesel motor owned by the City to see if it could be used at No. 3 well in an emergency. Motion by Rigby, second by White, to pay Southern Inspection Service, Inc., ~21~6.00 for their services in connection v~rith the City s Street Paving project. Carried. The Mayor read a letter front Daniel Schlanger stating Mr. B. D~ Kaufman, oPrner of Lots one (Z) and Thirty-T~vv (32} in Block 306, La Porte, Texas, would dedicate said lots, which would aggregate 50 feet, for road pur- poses, to the City of La Porte. The City to shell roadbed and do all that is necessary in road work without cost to the abutting propc~ty owners. ~. Afr. Pfeiffer agreed to pay Mr. Kaufmsn to dedicate the two lots far street purposes, the amount to be paid simultaneously with the delivery of the Deed of dedication. Motion by Whit e, second by Rigby, to she1.1 and do necessary road work on Lots one (1} and Thirty-Two (32) Block 306, La Porte. Carried. The M or introduced a resolution which was read in f`aL1. Commissioner L. R. Rigby made a motion that the resolution be adopted as read. The motion was seconded b~ Comiai.ssioner Robert A. ?,lhite, and carried by.the follow3sLg vote: AYES: Mayor Burgin, Comri.ssioners Rigby and White. NOES : None.
