I~. i Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayer Burgin, with the fb73owing m~nbers and city officials present: Commissioners L.R. Rigby and Robert A, tNhite, Supt. of Public Works W.A. Arthur, City Attorney Ed.~rd J. Cade, Firs Ghief J. 0. Rollins, Chief of Police falter M. Roberson, and City Clerk J.E. Muldoon. Minutes of the last meeting were read and appro~red. A discussion was held on the Rubin Glass Company's statement. After discussion, the Commission authorized. the Mayor to settle this statement with Rubin Glass Co. J. 0. Rollins, Fire Chief, appeared bafore the Commission and recommended C. L, Evans far the position of paid fireman. He recommended that he be paid X200.00 per month, .and be furnished living quarters and utilities grat3.s. He stated, also, that Evans would do the janitor work 3n both buildings fcr this sum. Motion by Rigby second by White, to employ C, L. Evans at ~200,E~? per month, living quarters and utilities funished, Evans to do all jarrl.tor wrc~rk, in addition to his regular ~.uties. Carried. Mayor Burgin stated he had talked over the telephone with Mr. Loge, of the South- ern Pacific Railroad, in connection with Flasher Type Signal. Light at railroad crossing,an Spencer H3gh~ay. Mr. Lowe told him that he had ordered this flasher type signal light some time ago from the factory, but that they had not received it as of this date. However,, upc~a receiving this flasher type signs]. ligk:t, they would have it immediately installed. A discussion was held an "J" Street, in connection with materials to be furnished in the construtitioa~ of "8th" and "d" streets by the County. In this discussion, it was brought anzt that the City would purchase the material for "J" Street, if the County ~rould do the a~nstruction. Motion by ~Thite, second by Rigbyr, to purchase 2,162 tons of material, in accor- dance with their agreement made with Mr. W, Kyle Chapman, County Commissioner, Carried. Mti'. W.A. Arth~, Public Works Superintendent, stated that he had been offered one used Caterpillar l2 Maintainer, for X5,000.00, less trade-in allcs+rance of one used Galion Maintainer, valued at X1,250.00, which would make the price of the used maintainer ~3,750.0o cash. 161 162 • • The Cammi.ssion ~rere unanimously in favor of trying out this maintainer oa a ons-~eekTS trial basis. After this trial, theg wt~ul+d give Mr. Arthur their deoisioa. Walter Robersa¢~~ Chief of Police, appeared before the Coma~3.ssion and stated that traffic was so heavy on week-ends that it was impossible for one mag to handle it. He recommended they employ another man on weep-ends to help him take care of this traffic. He recoaanended. they employ Kenneth Epperson for this position. Mottion by Wh3.te, second. by Rigby, to employ Kenneth Epperson on a one months s trial°basis, compensation to be X75.00 per month. Carried, Motion by 8igby, second by White, to issue Kenneth Epperson a City Police C~nission. Carried. Motion by White, second by Rigby, instructing W.A, Arthur, Public forks Supe~- intendent, to contact Ed Niles and get the balance of pipe belonging to the City. ' Carried. Motion by white, second by Rigby, that C~dinance No.-x.53, being AN ORDINANCE REGULATING AND PROVIDIl3G FCR PARALLEL PARKING Cat CERTAIN STREETS;. PROVIDING A PIIJALTY FOR VIOLATION OF THIS (RDINAN(~ AND RE- ` PEALING ALL ORDINANCES CY3 P~ TS OF ~DINANCES 1N CONFLICT H~E4PITH, be adopted as read, this Ordinance to be effective November 1st, 1953.
