Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Ma~-or Burgin, with the following members and city officials present: Commissioners L. R. Rigby anti Robe2-t A, Whitey City Attorney Ec~rrard J. Cade Supt. of Public Works R. A. Arthur, and City Clerk J. E. M~.doon. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The Mayor ordered the City Clerk to open the bids on painting and repairing the water tower and tank. The City Clerk read the follcnoing bids: LaaRren~ce Service, Inc. X1,850.00 Ace Service 1,190.00 Dixie Tank and Bridge Co. 3,500.00 Pittsburg Tank & Tourer Co. 1.,100.00 Knoblock & Company 1,995.00 The Mayor stated that these bids would be anali~ed., and the bid awarded with- in the Heart fear daysz. A discussion was held on the damage to motor on the ladder fire truck. After much discussion, upon motion by White, second by Rigby, to employ a mechanic from the American La~'rance Corporation to put this truck izi working condition. a Carried. W. A. Arthur, Public forks Superintendent, advised the Commission that he had a good macfy damaged dater meters in the viciu3.ty of Io~ra and Virginia Streets. After Bauch disBUSSion, the C~m.3.ssion instructed Mr. Arthur t® start charging repair bills to the indiv3.dua1 o~rners. The Ccsnmission had a, discussion on the telephone rates, especially pertaining to the La Porte Airport. It was decided to have ~. L. H. Hudson, Unit Manager of the Southwestern Be11 telephone Company, to attend. one of the meetings in the near„future for a discussion on this matter. The City Commassi.on unanimously approved opening 9th Street, from Main to Madison, Polk, from ~.Oth all the` way to the Rai7.road, Madison from 6th to 10th, and 11th Street to Madison. Motion by White, second by Rigby, oath©rizing the Gulf Bithulithic Compaigr to repair 100- of curb ar~d gutter on Hi.ghwa~r 11~b, adjacent to Moore & Moores s office, for X290.00., Carried. 202 The Coimni.ssion unanimously authorized the City Clerk to accept the South~reste!rn Bell Telephone Compat~ s check in the amount of X1,139.38, sane b~r~g for 2~ of the gross tau f os~ the year 1953.
