Special meeting of the City Conun3.s sign was called to order by M€~por Mercer D. Burgin with the follovring members and city officials present: Commissioners L. R,Rigby and Robert A. Whi.te~ City Attorney Edgard J. Cade Supt. of Public Works W. A. Arthur and City Clerk J. E. Muldoon. Minutes of the last meetings were read and approved. The purpose of this meeting Was to canvass the returns of the election of city offic- ials~ held on the 27th day of April, 19511, anci to install the new me~bers of the Commission, who will. serve for the ensuing two years. Mayor Burgin asked that the returns of the city election held on April 27, 195l~, be canvassed. The election returns were canvassed as follows: FbR MAYCR: Mercer D. "Bob" White 385 L. R, "Doodle" Rigby !~~ H. P. Pf eiff er l~32 Mayor Burgin declared Mercer D, Burgin elected to the office of Mayor for a t~:rm of two years, and L. R. Rigby and Har®ld P. Pfeiffer elected as Commissioners for a term ®f tiro years. rt Aiotion by Rigby second by i~hi.te, that Mercer D. Burgin the candidate receiving the greatest number of votes for the office of Mayors be declared elected to serve in the office of Mayer for a two year term. Carried. Motion by Rigby second by Whi.te~ that L. R. Rigby and Harold P. Pfeiffer the can- dictates receiving the greatest number of votes for the office of Comm3.ssioners~ be declared elected to serve as Commissioners for a two year term. Carried. M Lion by Rigby, second by Wh3,te, that the City Clerk place the election returns on f~1.e . Carried. 21.?. • Ma6ror Burgin requested the City Clerk to read Ordinance N®. 46l~ in fu11. Upon reading the ordinance i.n full, Commissioner Rigby made a motions which was seconded by Commissioner llPhite, that Ordinance No. 1164, being AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION FOR QTY OFFICIALS, HELD ON THE 27TH DAY OF APRIL A. D. 1954, IN THI-~ CITY OF LA PQRTE, TEXAS, AND CAb'AOTSSICNING THE OFFICTAL~ ELECTED, be adopted as read. Carried. The bond of Hareem D. Burgin as Mayor, and L. R. Rigby and Harold P. Pfeiffer as Commissioners, executed by a Corporate Surety, were read and approved upon motion laQr Rigb~•, second by ~ihite. Carried. Mercer D. Burgin L. R. Rigby and Harold P. Pfeiffer were administered the Oath of Office by Edward J.Cade~City Attorney, and a Notary Public. Rev. John C. Eichorn offered a prayer for the nearly elected admi.nistration~ seek- ing Gmd.~s aid in making a°snaceesful administration during the ne~rt itwo years. Before adjourning, Robert A. White ask that the new Commission discharge res- ponsibilities taken ®n by them on which he serveel in its ~200~000.00 street improvement program. He also complimented Burgin by stating that he was the hardest working and m©st honest Mayor he had Wirer met. There being no further business upon motion by Rigby, second by White, the meeting adjourned. Carried. ATTEST: .
