Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor M.D.Burgin, with the follo~ring members and city officials present: Commissioners L. R. Rigby and H. P. Pfeiffer, Special Counsel Jno. S. Kiihler, and City Clerk J.E. Muldoon. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. J.E. Muldoon, City Clerk, asked the C o:nmis Sion for advise on paying the aumers of the Grandview Avenue water line, moneys paid to the City by other property owns for connecting to said water line.. He was advised that he must satisfy himself that the present oRners of the property also were given ov~ership in the Grand- viex Avenue water line, before paying them any money. Mayor M. D. Burgin read a letter from Toomey, Toomey and. Toomey, Attorr:eys at lair, requesting the City to waive the taxes which it claims on property formerly ovaned by the .State of Texas by virtue t of a tax sale, This matter was referred to Jno. S. Kiibler, Special Counsel for the City, far his opinion. Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, to redeem Street Improveme~ Time 'arrant, Series 1953, No. l.41, from the asst Nat3.ona1 Bank of La Porte, far $501.44, 3.n- cluding interest.. Carried. Motion by R3.gby, second by Pfeiffer, authorizing the City Clerk to correcterror in moneys inadvertently deposited to Interest and Since ~ Street Borx3 ~iZnd, 1954, and deposit same in G~eral Fund. Carried. The Commission held a discussion on Social Security for city employees. It eras the consensus of opinion of the Commission that this matter betaken up when setting the 1955-56 Budget. Motion by Pfeiffer, seconvl by Rigby, instructing the Public Vforks Supt. to have moneys collected in advance before installing any culverts to individuals, or the individual can purchase his oven c ulverts, but it must pass city specifica- tions. Carried. The Commission unanimously instructed the City Clerk to write letters to those per- sons who have not paid far culverts, that the City will pick them up unless arrange- ments are made to take care of this obligation; also to write letters to those contractors who are damaging the City streets by their construction. The Commission instructed the Public Wants Supt., W.A. ~lrthur~ to install a 20" culvert at the 1100 Blosk of South First Street, and ask the County to cooper ate with them. The Commission referred the matter of a drive-in mailbca to Caamni.ssioner H.l P. Pfeiffer, and Police (thief W. M. Roberson. The Cc~nmission is a~nsidering installing adrive-in box with a snout, which motorists can reach from their cars, on the corner of Ma3.n and Seconsi Streets. A drive-in space wou7si be reserved on this corner. The Commission unanimously instructed the City Clerk to write Mr. Dale Porter and request him to have Geo~ H, Sharp, Jr.~-disconnect has water line tam has water service line, at the 1100 Block on "J" Street.
