Special meeting of the La Porte City Commission was called to oreler by Mayor
M.D.Burgin, with the fo7.lo:ving members and city officials present: Commiss-
ionsrs L.R. Rigby and H. P. Pfeiffer, Supt. of Public Works W. A. Arthur, and
City Clerk J. E. Muldoon. Special Counsel Jno. S. Kiibler was also present.
Minutes of the last meetings were read and approved.
Mr, Alfred Norris appeared befoare the Commission, and requested the City to
give people 3.n the vicinity of flue Snack Shop on Broa~+ray, some relief from
waste papers flying on their property.
The Commission assured Mr. Norris they would look into the matter, and do t heir
best to give these people some relief.
Mayo Burgin requested the City Clerk to open and read the bids for a new auto-
mobile for the City, to be used in the Police Department.
The bids were opened and read as follows:

After s ome discussion, upon motion by Rigby, second by Burgin, to accept bid
submitted by Jay Marks Chevrolet Co., in the amount of X1559,00, fca~ a !~-door,
8 Cylinder Chevrolet.
Carried.
The Mayor read a petition to the Commission signed by Mr, W. R. Watkins, B. T.
Brown and W.H. Settegast, in which they requested the City to barrScade Holmes
Avenue, frc~n Roscoe Avenue to the Bay, at their expense.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, authorizing this part of Holmes Avenue
to be barricaded, all expenses to be paid by the signers, and barricades to be
constructed with reflectors, all of which is t o b e approved by the Supt. of
Public Works.

A sewer contract form, smitten by John S. Kiibler, Special Counsel, was approved,
upon motion by Rigby, secor~l. by Pfeiffer.

Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, that the following Resolution be adopted:

HUNDRED DOLLARS 06500.00), TO BE EVIDENCED BY TAX ANTICIPATION NOTE, PAYABLE
OUT OF CURRENT TAXES COLLECTED DURING TIC FISCAL YEAR BFIxINNING JULY 1~ 195.
AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1955.
WHEREAS, it has begin determined by t he City Commission of the City

ticipated current revenue from ad valorem t axes will amo~mt to app any

WHEREAS, the First National Bank of La Porte, Texas, has agreed to
make the city a loan in said sum, to be paid:, with three per cent (3~)

1955; and

of said taxes available and sufficient to pay said obligation at maturity:

BE authorized to issue a promissory note of the City of La Porte to be
designated "Tax Anticipation Note for the Fiscal Year beginning July l~
195. and ending June 30, 1955", such note to b e in the principal sum of
Sixty--Five Hur~ired Dollars (~6500.00)~ to bear interest at the rate of
three per cent, (3~) per atmum until maturity with the usual provision
for interest at the rate of sax per cent, (6~~ per annum onp3st due
priniipal and. interest and ten per cent (10;6) attorr~ey~ s fees such note
to be due and payable on or before the 30th day of June, A. D. 1955, that
said note be sold by the City to .the Flrst National Bank of La Porte'
Texas, at not less than par value. ~fhen such note has been d my executed
by the Mayor and City Clerk and delivered to said Bank, with a copy of
this resolution, such ind,sbtedness thereby evidenced shall be fully
binding upon the City; and
BE IT FUR TIER RESOLVED that the City of La Porte hereby appropriates
and sets aside the sum of Sixty-Five Hundred Dollars 06500.00) out of
the current revenues from the collection of ad valorem taxes for the pay-
mertt of such inc~btedness.

Coaaniss ion. Carried.
The Mayor read a letter from ~. F. T. &3ldwin, avner of properly known as the
~Itheeler Tract, requesting the City to repair damages he claims has been done
to his property frcam overflow of s~rage (roan manholes.
The Commission instructed the Supt,. of Public forks to put s cane soil around the
manholes.
The City Clerk presented J. J. Roark, Sr., and J. J. Roark, Jr. ~ s request that
their water bill be adjusted. The Coarunission unanimously denied their requests.
The Commission instructed Special Counsel Jno. S. Kiibler to write an ordin-
ance authorizing them to adjust water accounts they think are in error.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby authorizing Mayor Burgin to sign munici-
pal maintenance ordinance and municipal maintenance agreement with the Texas
Highway department.
Carried.
Motion by Pleiffer, second by Rigby, that Municipal Maintenance Ordinance No.
482, be adopted as read.
Carried.
Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, that the Dog Catcher be allowed 25 gallons
of gasolene each month, at City~s .cost.
Carried.
Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, to purchase from Stalsby Tractor Company
Ore Ford Rotary Grass Utter, for X369.15.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, instructing Special Attorney Jno. S.
Kiibler to amend Ordinance No. 470 to read X5.00, instead of X30.00 for an
itinerant.
Carried.
Motion by Sigby, second by Pfeiffer, that the meeting adjourn.
Carried.
