Special meeting of the La Porte City Commission was called to order by Mayor M. D. Burgin, with the follyring members and city off~.cials present: Cammiss- i.oners L, R. Rigby and A. P. Pfeif for, Supt. of Public VPar~ks W. A. Arthur, Special Counsel Jno. 5. Kiibler, and City Clerk J. E. Muldoon. Minutes of the last meetings were read ark. approved. The Mayor .read a letter t`rom the Honorable Allan Shivers, in connection with Civil Defense and Disaster Relief. ,The Mayor .also read a letter from L.D. Farragut, M.D., relative to the City contributing to the support of the Stream ar~d Air Pollution Control. The Mayor stated he would bring this matter up when the Commission discussed the 1955 budget. I.~otion by Rigby second by Pfeiffer, authorizing M.D. Burgin to cyder rock on County bid when quantities are determined for NugerYt and 11th Streets. Carried. A discussion was held on the moving of certain city installations at Syly an Beach Park. The Commission was of the opinion that the County should move these installations at their own expense. Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby that Iv7ayar~ M. D.Burgin be authorized to negotia to with Harris County in the moving of certain city installations. Carried. ~Zotion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, that the City cooperate iM1rith the sponsors,of a community barbecue, which will benefit the anticipa-ted new local hospital. The City will cooperate in the mowing of grassy etc. Carried. Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, that Ordinance No. 338-8, being A1`1 ORDINANCE AMQQDING ORDINAICE N0. 338, by ADDING SECTION 6A, WHICH SECTION PRESCRIBES AN AVERAGE R~NTHLY WATER BILL F0~ CERTAIN CONSUM- ~tS F'a'd PERIODS DtfftING I'PIIfCH THE Z°~~TER METER ON SUCH CONSUI~I~R'S PRE- MISES IS NOT OPERATING, be adopted a.s read. Carried. 311 I.J 3~ Ration by Pfeiffer second by Rigby that Ordinance No. ?~70-A, being AN ORDINANCE AT~NDING SECTION 6 OF ORDINANCE N0. t~70 OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, TO PP~OVIDE F1OR A LICENSE AND LICENSE FEE OF FIVE DOLLARS 05.00) F(~t ITINERANT MERCIiANTS, ITINERANT VENDORS, PEDDLE~tS, AND PERSONS SET~TG OR TAKCI~DD ORDERS FOR GOODS, WARES, MERCHANDISE, SIltVICES, PHOTOGRAPHS, NI~WSPAPERS,, MAGAZINES, OR SUBSCRIPTIONS TO NEW'SP~PERS OR r~AGAZINES, be ~doptcd as read. Carried. The Commission unanimously authorized the adjustment of the vrater bills of J. J. Roark, Sr., and J. J. Roark Jr., and Pdrs. H. B. Baker. Carried. The Commission instructed the City Clerk to inform A, H. Lambert, Sr, that the City mould turn his mater on if he paid X7.50 dcmm, and X7.50 each ffianth, on delinquent vTater bill. motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer to employ B. von Skelt on to install bronze screen door s~ith hare~,vare, and one wixidc~ screen and no paint, for X66.50.
