MINUTES -REGULAR MEETING
LA PORTE CITY COb'I~fiISSION - AUGUST 5, 1955
10 : 00 A . M.
Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor M. D.
Burgin, with the following members and city officials present: Commissioners
H~ P. Pfeiffer and L. R. Rigby, Supt. of Public Works W. A. Arthur, Special
Counsel Jno. S. Kiibler, and Asst. City Clerk Eula Erwin.
Minutes of the last meeting wets read and approved.
Mr. C. L. Pitcock, District Manager, and Mr. L. H. Hudson, Unit Manager,
representing the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. appeared before the
Commission to discuss the Company's application for an increase in local
telephone exchange rates in the City of La Porte.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, and carried by unanimous vcte, that
the following Resolution be adopted:
RESOLUTION
BE IT RESOLVED TH$T THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, TENTATIVELY
APPROVE THIS DATE THE BUDGET SUBMITTED BY THE MAYOR FOR THE
CURRENT FISCAL YEAR: TFIAT PUBLICATION OF P10TICE OF HEARING
OF SAID BUDGET BE P~ADE IN THE OFFICIAL NEVYSPAPER OF THE CITY
OF I.A PORTE, TEXAS, ON AUGUST 12, 1955, AND SAID HEARING
BE HELD IN ACCORDANCE WITH SUCH NOTICE ON AU GUST 19, 1955,
AT I.~:30 O~CLOCK P. M. AT THE CITY HALL, CITY OF LA PORTE,
TEXAS.

The Mayor appointed Chas. F. Norris, J. W. Copeland, Jr. and G. C. McCollum, Jr.
to the City Tax Equalization Board.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, approving these appointments.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, that Ordinance No. 1~$3, being
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING ANY PERSON, FIRM, COMPANY, PARTNERSHIP, CORPORATION
OR ASSOCIATION FROM DEPOSITING ON THE CITY DUMP REFUSE OF ANY NATURE COLLECTED
FROM OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS
WITHOUT FIRST OBTAINING A FE RMIT SO TO DO FROM THE CITY CLERK OF THE SAID
CITY; REQUIRING SUCH PERMIT TO BE CARRIED BY ANY PERSON WHILE ENGAGED IN SO
DEPOSITING SUCH REFUSE; AND PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON, FIRM, COMPANY, PARTNER+
SHIP, CORPORATION OR ASSOCIATION VIOLATING ANY PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE OR
FAILING TO OBSERVE ANY PROVISION HEREOF SHALL BE DEEMED GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR
AND UPON CONVICTION SHALL BE FINED IN ANY SUM NOT TO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS

r Denis Dunham appeared before the Commission and requested them to
contact Federal in regards to raising the fire siren or installing
a new one. - -
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, to extend sewer lines across
private property where there is no other access to the main sewer line,
providing owners furnish the city with easement, pay for line less
12~-feet, plus tap charge. Namely, Sylvan Beach Area.
Carried.
Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, ratifying tax Cancellations no.
1 to 7, inclusive, dated June 30, 1955.
Carried.
Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, that the meeting ad3ourn.
Carried.
