Regular meeting of the City ComIId.ssion was_ called to order by Mayor M.D. Hurgin, with the following members and city officials present: Commi.ssior~ers L.R. Rigby, and H. P. Pfeiffer, ~. A.Arthur, Supt, of Public Worms, and City Clerk Frank G. Haber. Also p¢~esent were Mrs. 'ri.A. Stabs, Sr. ~ Reporter, Mr. Guy Robertson, Mr. W. D. and Mr. Jim Mayas. Minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, that the following Resolution be passed: RESOLUTION 11~HII~.EAS THE State Highway Commission of the State of Texas, on September 20, 1955, passed Minute Order No. 38785, directing the State Highway Eaigineer to proceed with location surveys arxi to flirnish local authorities with Deeds fcr a minimum three hundred (300) foot right-of- way locaton to be approved by the State Highway Engineer for the future construction of a minimum fox' lane facility with controlled access on State Hig~ray 1t~6 frown the three level interchange at the junction with State Highway 225 North of La Porte to a point on present State Highwa~q lli6 South of La Porte, a distance of approximately three ~ four miles at a total estimated cost of Nine Hundred Fifty Thousand ($950,000.00) Dollars on condition that the City of La Porte will declare the portion lying within the corporate limits of La Ports a freeway in accordance with the provisions of House Bill 1x51, 52nd Legislature, and will exe- cute the Texas Highwatiy De pastmerrt~ s standard forms far construction and mai~rtenamee of Highway projects inside corporate Cities and Towns, and providing further that such Minute shall become operative upon acceptance by Harris County and the City of La Porte within ninety (90) days of the date thereof; NO~t, THE~.E~tE, BE IT RESOLVED EY THE CITY COMMISSION OF TIC CITY OF LA FORTE, TEXAS, that theCity of La Porte does hereby expressly accept State Highs~ay Commission Minute Order No. 38785, passed on September 20, 1955, and agree to all of the ter~ss, conditions and provisions therein contained. BE IT FURTHER RF.SOLVID that certified copies of this Resolut ion be transmitted to the Texas Highway Department and the Commissioners Court of Harris County, Texas. Ply • Carried. The placing of "slaw" signs on Broadway, for churches, Was discussed. Motion by Pfeiffer, second. by Rigby, that City purchase two uniforms far officer Eggers, color scheme of pre sent uniforms to b e maintained. Carried. Motion by Rigby, seeorxi by Pfeiffer, that insurance coverage on Officer Eggers be purchased from La Porte Insurance Agency, the same as policy issued on Officer Jacobs. Carried. Motion by Pfeiffer, second by Rigby, that Messenger Policy (inside and outside robbery) be purchased frog La Porte Insurance Agency. Carried. Motion by Rigby, seconi by Pfeiffer, that Ordinance No. l~87, be adopted as read. C arried. The caption of such adopted Ordinance reads as follows:. AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTIIdANCE OF THE PORTION OF STATE HIGIIPAY N0. 116 IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TE%AS, FROM STATION 81~7~9.2 TO STATION 85}~~LO?~.2, HEREINAFTER BERED TO AS "THE STREET PROJECT" AND AUTH- OH;IZIrTG THE MAYS OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE AND THE CITY SECRETARY TO AFFIX" THE CORPC~tATE SEAL AND ATTEST THE SAME, A CERTAIN OONTRACT BET4YEEN THE CITY AND TAE STATE OF TEXAS PROVIDING FOR THE INSPALLATIbN, RECONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, EXISTENCE AND USE OF THE SAID STREET PRO- JECT; FCR THE IldDEM~TIFICATItN OF THE STATE OF TExAS BY THE CITY, AGAINST ALL DAMAGES Ta ADJOINING, ABUTTINC'r AND OTHER P1~PERTY, AND FCR EXPENSES IlJ CONNECTION WITH ANY CLAIM OR SUIT THEREOF; AND IIvCLARING AN E~RGENCY AND PROVIDIl~&'r THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE EFFECTIVE FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE. ~hsre being no further business, the meeting adjourned, upon motion by Rigby, cond by Pfeiffer.
