Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor M. D. Rurgin~ with the following members and city officials present: Commiss- ioners L. R.Rigby and H. P. Pfeiffer, Special Counsel Jno.S. Kiibler, and City Clerk Frank G. Falser. . Also present were Mr.V~. A. Arthur, Supt, cf Public Morks, Mr. Janes S. Crate, Jr., and Mrs, Alice Stabs, Reporter. r~2inutes of the last meetir~ were read and approved. Mr. Baker and Mr. James E. Richards, of the Burton Utility Company, appeared before the Omission and submitted a bid of X1.50 per fmt to lay a sewer line, estimated cost to be X1150.00. Mr. Geo.Cockburn was presents and submitted a bid of X80.00 per day estimate to dig a trench for sewer line, and to dig 50~ per day. Action on street lights was postponed for further discussion. Motion by Pfeiffer, secorrl by Rigby that City apply for two meters on airport c~ arance lights, Mr. F1 ~adsvTOrth to give City letter stating that all bills pertaining theretc will be paid by Airport. Car~+ied. ` Orders for three (3) two-way radios were placed with Motorola Corporation, same to be used on police cars and for civil defense. Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, that the following Resolution be passed: RESOLUTION t'~HER.EAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of La Porte, Texas at a meeting held the 1st day of November, A. D. 19l~8, duly passed and approved a resolution closing the East-~lifest runway of the Auxiliary Landing Field No. 2 of Ellington Field, now known as the City of La- Porte Municipal. Burgin Mayo of the • C~,ty of La Porte La Porte, Texas Dear ~Mayor Burgin: Reference, your recent verbal request that we determine if the•State of Texas has any objections to the re-openz of the E/~f Runway of the La Porte Municipal airport. As you recall an Air force Regulation settir~ forth certain airfield clearance criteria at the time this building was constructed caused the City Commission of La Porte to pass a Resolution closing the rutwvay. Inclosed is a copy of correspondence received this date from Colonel Maybin H. Wilson, Dhief Engineer, Adjutant Gneral~s Department, State of Texas, advising that tre State of Texas has no objections to the re-opening of the runway in view of the fact that no Air National Guard planes ire based at this installation. It appears that a completed map of the Airport shaming all installationstivill be completed in the near future; upon receipt of a copy will be Furnished your ofi'ice. Receipt is acknowledged of your letter 17 November in which you request the dra~zng of a map showing the Air National Guard facilities .plotted in reference to the rurnRays and airport han- gar, which map you v7i,sh to present to the Mayor of La Porte. 2. This work will be accomplished as soon as a draftsman is available. 3. D. 1948, is hereby rescinded and held to be null and void, and fur ther that the Fist West runway of the Auxiliary Landing Field No. 2 of Ellington Field, now known as the City of Laporte Municipal Airport, be opened and used; AND IT IS SO ORDERED. Carried. The Commission unanimously agreed to support Tennessee Gas building on Barbour ~ s Cut.
