Special meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. P, Pfeiffer, with the following Commissi.or~rs present: Brc~an, Osborn and Lawler, Special. Counsel Jno. S. Kiibler, Sr., City Supt, '~f.A. Arthur, aldCity Clerk Frank G. Bakex, A.Iso present were the following: John Eckhardt, C. Mason and Jackson Hines, with the Holston Natural Gas Corporation, and Howard .Boren, 0. L, Davis, Mx'. Pittman, James Stewart, Louis .Rigby and Doug Boyle. Mr, Hines presented a proposal for gas rate increase presented by the Houston Natural Gas Corporation. The Commission stated they would give an answer at .the nex t regular meeting, January 16th, 1959. ` Mr. 0. L.Davis appeared bef~e the Com~nssion and requested the City to regulate exterminators operating in the city, Mr. Kiibler will check other townis require- ments. ~1r, James Stewart requested a loading zone in front of his warehouse on South nth Street. Mayor Pfeiffer will cheek aixl rep~^t back at the next regular meeting. h~tr. Boren appeared before the Commission to try to sell Hopto equipment. Mr. Boren was told that the purchase of equipment `would be an item for future consider- ation. Motion by Broxn, secorr3. by Osl~,:rn, that First National Bank loan of $7,000.00, be paid now. Carried. Motion by Osburni second by Lawler, that tax deposit received from industry be placed in the bank under «City of La Porte upecial Furxi~r. Carried. Motion by Brun, second by Lawler, that Mayor Pfeiffer be authorized to contact Ernest Brawn to make a survey of the City~s bond capacity program. Carried. Motion by Lawler, second. by Osburn~ that Mayor Pfeiffer be allowed to spend up to $ 170.00, to partition room in County fail builds ng. Carried. Motion by Lawlor, second by Brown, that one street light be removed on Broadway, and ors light be installed in front of County Building; also install bumper rail in. front of County Building, Carried. ~ r Motion by Lawler, second by Osborn, that Ordinance No. 53b be amended to read that Radio Control Center be placed under the supervision of Police Director, and the duties of Civil Defense Director be transferred to Police Chief Ross Neill; also that the police radio in Commissioner Boyles car be assigned to the night watchman. Carried. The Commission discussed at length and decided to live strictly to the require- ment~ set up in the City Charter pertaining to the spending of city funds especial] the matter of no Commissioner spending more than X100.00, without the sanction of the Commission. Thsy ~.Lso instructed the City Clerk to refuse payment on any bill that did nort have a purchase order number, Motion by Osborn, second by Lawler, that Supt. Arthur be~authorized to purchase. water and steer line material for Axnold P. Pfeiffer job. ` Carried.. ' ' Motion by Broom, second by bawler, that La Porte Taxicab Company~s franchise be renevred. Carried.
