P. Pfeiffer, with the following present : Commissioners Boyle, Brown awl La~rler, Supt. ~.A. Arthur, and Asst. City Clerk Ruth Huddleston. Also present eras ~. Chas. D, Boyle. ~dinutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Carried. Mayor Pf eiffer brought up the natter of the l`Srst Baptist Church wanting to have the paving lien lifted on their property on South Broadway, so that they can go ahead with the building of their new church. He stated that he had talked to Mr. Biibler about this natter, and that Mr. Ki,ibler had advised hi-a that at the tine these liens were filed they were not filed properly, and that we cannot hold those persons to the payment of same, or cannot legally force them then to pay. Mr. Boyle stated that he would like to have some time to go over this matter, and thought that this should be taken care of at a meeting at which all members were present. He also suggested that the agenda of each nesting be prepared by the City Clerk and given to each Commissioner at least 2~, hours before the meeting,, so that some stu~r can be given to the business coming up. This way the matters coming before the meeting could be handled more efficiently as Drell as more quickly. This was unanimously.. agreed upon. The Mayor stated that he felt they should s~bi.de by ~. Kiibles t s advise ixi regard to the paving lien. After discussion, it was decided that they would wait until Mr. Kiibler can be at a meeting to discuss this matter with theffi. ll~ayor Pfeiffer stated that Mr. Ben Gaylor, an insurance man, wants to appear before the Commission with a presentation of a group insurance program for the City of La Porte. The time for taking care of Mr, Gaylor's request was discussed, and it was agreed to have a special meeting on ~Pednesday night ~ March 11, 1959, at 7:00 P. M., to hear Mr. Gaylor, and also to talk to Mr. Kiibler about the paving lice. Mayas Pfeiffer stateat that Ernest Brarn, Jr.~ would like to appear before the Ca~n:ai.ssion at their next regular meeting, to give the members a resuere of the revenue bonds. This request was granted. The matter of the opening of bids on March 20th, w~ brought up, and it was unanimously decided to have that meeting start at 6:00 P. M., so that most of the routine business could be handled fiy 7:00 P. M., the time snheduled for the opening of the bids. Mayor Pfeiffer instructed the City Clerk to write letters to all of the engineering firms who had Wade application for the Sob of consulting engineer, and advise them that Wyatt C , Hedrick had been hired, and thank then for their time and interest. ' , Motion by Broen, second by Laarler, that Ordinance No. 56l~, be adopted as read. Carried. Ordinance No. 565 was read in full. Motion by Lawler, second by Brown, that it be adopted as read. Carried. Commissioner Boyle brought up the matter of the City buying the blocl~ of ground adjacent to the Community House, which is for sale for $200.00 per lot. This block irould be valuable to the City inasmuch as there is a Lighted ball park a beady caapleted ar:el paid for. Mr.Boyle stated that l~r. Kiibler has an option to buy this ground, and that he thinks the City should talae advantage of this la- price to acquire this property. for recreation facilities for the youth of La Porte. He stated chat the school district would lilae to buy it, but are unab3re to do so at this tame, Motion by Boyle, second by Bmwn, to bring up this matter at the special meeting, March 11, 1959. . Cs~rried. ri L` Commissioner Lawler stated that ~+Palter Roberson wants to replace Nelson Lewis on the Zoning Board. After discussion, Mr, Lawler was instructed to check to see if Mr. Lewis haci not been attending the meetings. Motion by Lawler, second by Brarn, that the meeting adjourn. Carried. .
