Regular aeeting of the City Coanission was called to order by Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, with the following present: Ca~issioners Broom, Boyle and Lawler, Special Counsel Jno. S. Kiibler, Supt. W.A. Arthur, and Asst t. City Clerk Ruth Huddleston, substituting for Frank G. Baker, on vacation. Also present mere Rueben ~Pright, Bill. Jones, Bill Jones, Jr., Jii Holley and Jerry Egger (Press), and Mrs. Isabel Thayer. Minutes of the last aeeting were read and approved. lbs. Isabel Thayer appeared before the Ca~aission to request that Sylvan Avenue i.n Sylvan Beach Addition, be opened by the City. Mrs. T~iayer stated that she oRned sane property along this street, and eras conteaplating a building progra~a there. The Coasission advised her that when she takes out her building perxit, the street will be opened. The Mayor presented a bill fraK the Houston Libhting & Power Cospar~r 3n the mount of ~191.l~2, which represents the aunicipal ball parks aurser electric light bill. Mayer Pfeiffer stated that the Recreation Association would appreciate the cityts payYent of this bill. Motion by Boyle, second by Drown, that this bill be allowed. Carried. The City participation on sidewalk construction was discussed. This would be on both new sidewalks at~l. sidewalk repairs. It was brought out that in the past, in so~ae eases, the property owners had participated in the construction of new sidewalks, and that there had been several requests froaa property owners about this Rork.. Mr. Brawn stated that he would like for the city to have sage kind of policy in writing regariing this participation. This could not inclu~te any subrLi.Tisioris, but would take in residential sections of taoru, to those persons who are interested. The setter will be =one into wore thoroughly at the next meeting. Mayan Pfeiffer stated that the Auxiliary Police insurance policy is up fte• rene~ral at this tixe. He stated that the preiiua is ~1®O.t~O a year covering all Amciliary policeaen. Motion by Boyle, second by BroRn, that this policy be renewed with the La Porte Insurance Agency, Carried. Bids on the bookkeeping aachine were opened by the Mayor. The bids were as follows: National. Cash Register Co. #t~,49®. BO Burroughs Corporation 4s6A7.5® • The Mayor states that the Auditor has reaoaaenied the Burroughs aachine for the Rork in the City Hall, inasauch as the sane fora: can be uses, without the expense of getting neR and coapletely different ones. Notion by Brown, second by Lamrler, that the City purchase the Burroughs aachine, bawl on payaezrt when tax coney is received. Carried. Bids on the tax writing aachi~e were opened. There was only one bid on this e~uipaent, as follows: Aldressograph,-ldultigraph Corporation $2,179.00 Motion by Brawn, second by LaPrler, that the City purchase the tax writing aachine fra~a the above coapa~, Carried. The natter of the City adapting the Texas Moth Vehicle Laws was brought up. Mr. Kiibler stated that we ~ron1d have to wrl.te our orris ordinances using this book as a guide, eras that we could not adopt the book as a whole. ldr's. E. E. Mc Coabs would like the City to open and shell a part of East "A" street, that part leading up to her garage, so that she can get in and out, and wanted to kna- if she could pay for this work iniastallaent payaents. The City has no set-up far installaent pay- aents on this sort of work, aid the Ccnru~i.ssioners decides it would be better to shell enough of that part of the street so that lbs. Mc Coatis could get in and out of her garage. Caraissioner Boyle brought up the natter of the Southern Pacific crossing on Spencer Highway being eery rough and hard on front wheels of autoaobiles. In his opinion, this should be repaired peraanently by the railroad cosy pang. Coaaissioner Boyle stated that a white cross should be placed on top of the new elevated water tank. The setter of the ~3.t~0 gas inspection fee was brought up by Caanissioner Boyle. He stated that the gas coapar~r :aloes their arorn inspection on eTery house they hook up, and only the people inside the city Baits of La Porte are being stunk with this $3.0C fee. The people outside the city Baits get this work done free by the gas co~a~. He stated that he did not think it was right to penalize the people of La Porte by charging then this X3.00 fee. After discussion, it was agreed they would discuss this natter with Mr. Eckhardt Manager of the g as coapany, and possibly do away with this inspection Yee, • Supt. Arthur stated that at the present t3xe the City does mat have a spraying Machine, due to the fact that the coil on the ~aachine Trent bas. He stated that he hail receives a letter frog the co~apany they purchased this coil t~ox, saying that the reason this c o3.1 xent bad eras because it had not been installed right. l~r. Arthur stated that he did not feel like it eas the fault of his Yen, ans. in his opinion, the coil ~!ras installed properly. Accor~ting to the letter frog Kesler Corporation, a nex coil asadably would cost X282.65, less discount of 3~, Rhich i s the saxi~aui ~Li.scount allowed. Motion by LaRler, secc;nd by Brown, to purchase the new coil assembly for spraying machine, ~©Y Beslor Cor- poraticgn. Carried. The Idapror stated that stop signs are to be placed atvarious points around the new school, and ltr.Arthur advised him that the signs have been ordered aril would be placed ae soon as they arrive, Bi17. Jones and his son appeared before the Cor~i.ssion in the interest of a new subdivision planned for an area near La torte Terrace. lam. Jones asked for the relocation of Tiro streets tiro blocks long, as follows: pulling lath street and curving it into 13th street. After ~.scussion, Mr. Jones xas advised they could give hix tentative approval, pending engineer's survey of streeta, ~lrainabe, elevation, etc. There being no further business, upon Potion by Boyle, second by I3rovrn, the meeting ad3ourned.
